Lionel Finch
Major general (United Kingdom), Major General Lionel Hugh Knightley Finch (5 July 1888 – 23 October 1982) was a senior British Army officer. Military career After being educated at Cheltenham College,Smart, p. 102 Finch was commissioned into the 3rd Battalion, the Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey), Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment on 1 July 1908. He served in the 2nd Battalion the Cheshire Regiment in the World War I, First World War and his capture and subsequent detention as a prisoner of war was recognised by his appointment as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. He was appointed a companion of the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) in the 1917 New Year Honours In September 1917 he was awarded a Medal bar, bar to his DSO, and later earned a second bar, with the second bar's citation reading: He went on to command the 13th (Service) Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment in the later stages of the war. Murree ( Punjabi, Urdu: مری) is a mountain resort city, located in the Galyat region of the Pir Panjal Range, within the Muree District of Punjab, Pakistan. It forms the outskirts of the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metropolitan area, and is about northeast of Islamabad. It has average altitude of . The British built this town during their rule to escape the scorching heat in the plains of Punjab during the summer. Construction of the town was started in 1851 on the hill of Murree as a sanatorium for British troops. The permanent town of Murree was constructed in 1853 and the church was consecrated shortly thereafter. One main road was established, commonly referred to even in modern times, as the mall. Murree was the summer headquarters of the colonial Punjab Government until 1876 when it was moved to Shimla. Murree became a popular tourist station for British citizens of the British Raj.
