''Lion'' is the tenth solo album by English musician Peter Murphy. It was released on 2 June 2014 in the United Kingdom and 3 June 2014 in the United States through Nettwerk Records. The album was produced by Killing Joke bassist Youth alias Martin Glover. A teaser trailer for the album was released on 27 March 2014. The track "Hang Up" was released as a single on 8 April 2014 and was accompanied by a music video. The remixed version track was also released as limited 7" Record Store Day single, with the b-side track "I’m On Your Side". Murphy embarked a North American tour in 2014 in support of the album. It was his first album to chart on the US ''Billboard 200'' since his 1992 album, '' Holy Smoke''. Background The album is a product of sessions with Youth, with whom Murphy got together "just to see how it went." Murphy described the album as "a mixture of stuff, almost like operas for the dispossessed" and "romantic and very deep and emotional, quite symphonic in places." ...

Peter John Joseph Murphy (born 11 July 1957) is an English singer, songwriter, and musician. He is the vocalist for the post-punk goth rock band Bauhaus. After Bauhaus initially disbanded, Murphy formed Dali's Car with Japan's bassist Mick Karn and released one album, '' The Waking Hour'' (1984). He later went on to release a number of solo albums, including '' Should the World Fail to Fall Apart'' (1986) and ''Love Hysteria'' (1988). In 1990, he achieved mainstream success with his hit single "Cuts You Up", which topped the American Modern Rock Tracks for 7 weeks. His album ''Deep'' also reached No. 44 on the ''Billboard'' 200. ''Holy Smoke'' is the fourth solo studio album by English musician Peter Murphy. It was released on 14 April 1992 through Beggars Banquet Records. Produced by Mike Thorne, the album features contributions from Alison Limerick, Jonathan Carney, Audrey Riley and The Hundred Men, his backing band since 1988's ''Love Hysteria'' album. Although the album didn't meet with the commercial success of its predecessor, ''Deep'' (1990), it peaked at number 108 on ''Billboard'' 200 chart. The lead single off the album, "The Sweetest Drop", peaked at number 2 on Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. Critical reception Ned Raggett of Allmusic was mixed in his assessment of the album. He stated: "Released in the initial craze of the grunge/alternative mega-crossover, ''Smoke''s elegant ballads and angular, arty rockers simply didn't fit in." Martin Glover (born 27 December 1960), better known by his stage name Youth, is a British record producer and musician, best known as a founding member and bassist of the rock band Killing Joke. He is also a member of the Fireman, along with Paul McCartney. Early career Martin Glover was born on 27 December 1960 in Slough, at that point part of Buckinghamshire, England. He attended Kingham Hill School, an independent private school in Oxfordshire, where he met Alex Paterson, who would become a roadie for Glover's band Killing Joke, and later founder of The Orb.
