Linux Phone Standards Forum
The Linux Phone Standards Forum (LiPS Forum) is a consortium of a group of companies to create standardization, standards for the use of Linux on mobile devices. The main goal of the LiPS Forum is to create application programming interfaces (APIs) that will allow developers to build applications to inter-operate across Linux handsets made by all manufacturers. Founding members include ARM Ltd, Cellon, Esmertec, France Telecom, Telecom Italia, FSM Labs, Huawei, Jaluna, MIZI Research, MontaVista Software, Open-Plug and PalmSource (in March 2007, PalmSource changed its name to that of its parent company, Access Inc). Newer members include Texas Instruments, Trolltech ASA, and Movial Oy. British Telecom joined the LiPS Forum in September 2007. Linux Organizations
Linux ( or ) is a family of open-source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991, by Linus Torvalds. LiMo Foundation
The Tizen Association, formerly the LiMo Foundation (short for Linux Mobile), is a Non-profit organization, non-profit consortium which develops and maintains the Tizen mobile operating system. Tizen is a Linux-based operating system for smartphones and other mobile devices. The founding members were Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics, and Vodafone. The consortium's work resulted in the LiMo Platform—which was integrated into mobile phone products from NEC, Panasonic and Samsung—and later became the Tizen platform. OpenPlug is a French company focused on mobile applications development tools and software for mobile phones. The company was founded in August 2002 by Eric Baissus and David Lamy-Charrier. Before OpenPlug, they were in charge of the reference software solution for Texas Instruments 2G and 2.5 product lines. Alcatel-Lucent announced it had acquired OpenPlug on September 1, 2010. OpenPlug has developed several mobile software technology products and development tools aimed at mobile phone OEMs, ODMs and chipset vendors as well as mobile application developers.
