Linslaw, Oregon
Linslaw is an unincorporated community in Lane County, Oregon, United States. It is located about eight miles west of Walton on Oregon Route 126 next to the Siuslaw River. In 1917, when a petition was sent to the United States Post Office Department for a post office at this locale, it was approved with the name "Linslaw". Locals could not explain the source of the name, but the author of ''Oregon Geographic Names'' has a theory that the name was supposed to be "Siuslaw", and the handwriting on the petition was unclear and misread as "Linslaw". Linslaw post office was closed in 1957. The Coos Bay Line of the Southern Pacific Railroad had a station here. The Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad is a Class II railroad operating between Northern California and Eugene, Oregon, United States. It was previously a mainline owned by the Southern Pacific Railroad (SP) between Eugene and Weed, California (north of Redding, California) via Medford, Oregon. SP sold the route on December 31, 1994, in favor of using its route to Eugene via Klamath Falls, Oregon and Cascade Summit. The mainline of the CORP is . Yarmouth is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States, twelve miles north of the state's largest city, Portland. Siuslaw River
The Siuslaw River ( ) is a river, about long, that flows to the Pacific Ocean coast of Oregon in the United States. It drains an area of about in the Central Oregon Coast Range southwest of the Willamette Valley and north of the watershed of the Umpqua River. It rises in the mountains of southwestern Lane County, about west of Cottage Grove. It flows generally west-northwest through the mountains, past Swisshome, entering the Pacific at Florence. The head of tide is upstream. It is part of the homeland of the Siuslaw people, after whom it is named. Citizens of the Siuslaw nation lived in villages along the river until 1860 when they were forcibly removed to an Indian reservation in Yachats whereupon their homes, farms, gardens and villages were destroyed and occupied by U.S. settler-colonists.
