Line 5, Beijing Subway
Line 5 of the Beijing Subway () is Beijing's only subway line with an entirely north-south route. Line 5's color is maroon. It entered into operation on October 7, 2007. It runs for in a near straight line through the city center (just approximately a kilometer east of the Forbidden City at Dongdan) from in Changping District to in Fengtai District. Though Line 4 and Line 8 also broadly follow north-south routes (and so, in part, do Lines 14 and 13), Line 5 remains the only line to follow an almost entirely straight north-south course. Line 5 is also notable for including three stations in the densely populated northern suburb of Tiantongyuan, as well as providing convenient access to the Temple of Earth and Temple of Heaven. Datunlu Dong (E) Station
Datunludong station () is an interchange station of Line 5 and Line 15 on the Beijing Subway. History The line 5 station opened on October 27, 2007. It was too small to handle the interchange between line 5 and 15, so the line 15 station was left unopened when the western extension was opened in December 2014. From October to December 2015, the line 5 station was closed to widen the station and build a transfer corridor. Tiantongyuan
Tiantongyuan () is a suburb in northern Beijing's Changping District. As of April 2008, it was said to have over 400,000 residents. As of 2019, the population of Tiantongyuan had jumped to 700,000, making it the largest Xiaoqu (housing community) in China, and the suburb accounts for 3% of the population of Beijing. Both Beijing Subway Line 5 and the BRT3 bus serve the area, as do many other Beijing public buses. There are two large bus hubs at Tiantongyuan North subway station and Tiantongyuan North neighborhood. Future expansion of the subway system will see Tiantongyuan acquire two new stations. Line 15 of the Beijing Subway () is a rapid transit rail line in northern Beijing. The line has a total length of across northern Beijing from Qinghuadongluxikou in Haidian District in the west, to Fengbo in Shunyi District in the east. The line uses Sparcs CBTC system supplied by Nippon Signal. It cost ¥17.6 billion. The line features 6-car trains similar to other lines in the Beijing Subway. Beijing's 5th Ring Road (, China Road Numbering: S50 (Beijing) is a ring road encircling the city about away from the city centre. It takes the form of an expressway and is in length. Being a ring road, it has no natural start or end point, although the "0 km" mark is found near the northeastern stretch at Laiguangying, at the intersection with the Jingcheng Expressway. Line 6 of the Beijing Subway () is a rapid transit rail line in Beijing. The line runs from Jin'anqiao in Shijingshan District to Lucheng in Tongzhou District. Line 2 of the Beijing Subway () is a rapid transit rail line in central Beijing that runs in a rectangular loop around the city centre. The line traces the Ming dynasty inner city wall, which was demolished and paved over by the 2nd Ring Road and Qianmen Avenue.
