Lindley, South Australia
Lindley is a locality in Mid Murray Council in the Mid North of South Australia, north of Morgan, South Australia. Its boundaries are coincident with the cadastral Hundred of Lindley in the County of Burra. The Goyder Highway traverses the southwestern corner of the locality. The locality boundaries were set in March 2003 to conform to the Hundred boundaries. The Hundred was named in 1881 for John Lindley, a botanist and horticulturalist who was assistant librarian for Sir Joseph Banks and Professor of Botany at London University. Much of the land was selected by settlers in 1881 soon after the Hundred was surveyed for closer settlement. It was bought from the government for a basic price of £1 per acre plus any existing improvements, and the buyers were named in the South Australian Government Gazette, Government Gazette. Royal Air Force Lindley or more simply RAF Lindley is a former Royal Air Force station situated in Leicestershire south east of Polesworth, Warwickshire, England in close proximity to Watling Street. The airfield opened in 1943 before closing in 1946. History The first unit to use the airfield was No. 1513 (Beam Approach Training) Flight RAF (BAT Flt) flying the Airspeed Oxford based at RAF Bramcote, RAF Bitteswell and Lindley between 31 October 1942 and 13 May 1946. From 7 February 1943 until 27 March 1943 No. 18 (Polish) Operational Training Unit RAF used the airfield as a satellite from RAF Bramcote flying Avro Ansons, Fairey Battles and Vickers Wellingtons but the airfield was transferred to RAF Transport Command on 25 June 1943 and was home to No. 105 Operational Training Unit flying Vickers Wellingtons and Douglas Dakotas until 21 November 1945. Lindley, West Yorkshire
Lindley is a suburb of Huddersfield, within the metropolitan borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England. It is approximately northwest from Huddersfield town centre. The Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, Huddersfield's main hospital, is in Lindley. It is run by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. In 1951, the scheme for building the new Infirmary was announced, at an initial cost of £5.5 million. Work started in 1957, but progress was slow. The hospital was officially opened only in 1967, by Prime Minister Harold Wilson, born in Huddersfield. Lindley, Free State
Lindley is a small town situated on the banks of the Vals River in the eastern region of the Free State province of South Africa. It was named after an American missionary, Daniel Lindley, who was the first ordained minister to the Voortrekkers in Natal. The settlement of Lindley was laid out in 1875 on the farm ''Brandhoek'' and was proclaimed a town in 1878. The main route to the town is the R707. Lindley, together with its neighbouring towns of Reitz, Petrus Steyn and Arlington form the Nketoana Local Municipality.
