Linda Wright
Linda Isabel Wright (born 31 October 1950) is a British politician who became the Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2017. She has been a Labour Councillor for the Newburn Ward since being first elected in 1996. Early life and education Wright was born in Throckley, a village in Newcastle upon Tyne. Her family had lived in the village for five generations, mainly working as miners, though her father was the first in many generations not to go down the pits. He trained as a fitter and turner, serving his apprenticeship with Vickers Armstrong, and worked at Spencer's Steel Works in Walbottle until retirement. Wright was educated at the Walbottle Campus where she engaged in a two-year commercial course. She continued her education at Newcastle College of Further Education where she went on to gain high levels in shorthand and typing, skills which she has used for most of her working life. The 2004 Newcastle City Council election was held to elect members of the Newcastle City Council on 10 June 2004, coinciding with elections to the European Parliament and other local elections. Freeman Hospital
The Freeman Hospital is an 800-bed tertiary referral centre in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The hospital is managed by the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is a teaching hospital for Newcastle University. History The Freeman Hospital, which was designed by Newcastle Regional Hospital Department and built by John Laing, was completed in 1977, when services from several hospitals across the city were relocated into one centre. The name of the hospital recalls the life of Patrick Freeman, a tenant farmer, who, with his son, tilled the land which is now occupied by the hospital in the first half of the 19th century. The office of Sheriff of Newcastle upon Tyne existed from until local government reorganisation in , and was reintroduced in as a title held additionally by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne. The city has a sheriff because it was historically a county corporate. In 1950 Violet Grantham became the first woman to hold the office (becoming the first female Lord Mayor two years later), and in 2019 Councillor Habib Rahman became the first BAME person to hold the office. The council consists of 78 councillors, three for each of the 26 wards in the city. It is currently controlled by the Labour Party, led by Nick Kemp.
