Linda Cooper-Suggs
Linda Darnell Cooper-Suggs (born 1953) is an American politician. She is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. She has represented the 24th district (composed of all of Wilson County) since her appointment in 2020. Career Cooper-Suggs was selected by Democratic party activists from Wilson County on July 25, 2020 to represent the 24th House district, a vacancy left by the resignation of Jean Farmer-Butterfield. Her appointment was approved by North Carolina governor Roy Cooper on July 27, 2020. She ran for the same office in November 2020 and won the election on 3 November 2020 from the platform of Democratic Party. North Carolina's 24th House district is one of 120 districts in the North Carolina House of Representatives. It has been represented by Republican Ken Fontenot since 2023. Roy Cooper
Roy Asberry Cooper III (born June 13, 1957) is an American attorney and politician, serving as the 75th governor of North Carolina since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the 49th attorney general of North Carolina from 2001 to 2017. He also served in the North Carolina General Assembly in both the House of Representatives (1987–1991) and Senate (1991–2001). Cooper defeated Republican incumbent Pat McCrory for the governorship in a close race in the 2016 election. On December 5, McCrory conceded the election, making Cooper the first challenger to defeat a sitting governor in the state's history. Cooper took office on January 1, 2017. The Republican-dominated legislature passed bills in a special session before he took office to reduce the power of the governor's office. Jean Farmer-Butterfield (born October 21, 1947) is an American politician who served as a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives for the 24th district from January 2003 to July 2020. Early life and education Farmer-Butterfield was born in Wilson, North Carolina. She earned a Bachelor and Master of Arts from North Carolina Central University. Career Farmer-Butterfield has worked as a consultant and manager of non-profits in the health and human services field for many years. Farmer-Butterfield was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 2002 and assumed office in 2003. During her tenure, she served as a House majority whip from 2007 to 2011. She lost that position after the Republican Party members gained control of the North Carolina House of Representatives in the 2010 election.
