Lincoln Theatre Guild
The Lincoln Theatre Guild is a non-profit community theater organization founded in 1981. The Guild serves Lincoln County, North Carolina, United States, and the surrounding Piedmont region. History The Lincoln Theatre Guild was formed in 1981 with 15 members. The first guild activity was an acting workshop, which was followed by the first production, ''Harvey''. The first guild president was Barrie Howard. A notable early production was ''Prelude to Victory'', a musical drama telling the story of the a revolutionary war battle fought nearby. In 1983, a successful production of ''Scrooge'', a musical adaption of Dickens' ''A Christmas Carol'', helped give the guild a stable financial base. Lincolnton is a city in Lincoln County, North Carolina, United States, within the Charlotte metropolitan area. The population was 10,486 at the 2010 census. Lincolnton is northwest of Charlotte, on the South Fork of the Catawba River. ''The Actor's Nightmare'' is a short comic play by Christopher Durang. It involves an accountant named George Spelvin, who is mistaken for an actor's understudy and forced to perform in a play for which he does not know any of the lines. Inspiration The play was inspired by the dreams actors and performers often have in which they are about to go onstage and cannot remember their lines or rehearsal instructions. Durang himself had an actor's nightmare after performing in this play in which he could not remember any lines, could not find his script, and when he did find the script it was gibberish to him. Later the play was the subject of the legal case '' See v. Durang'' (1983) when John William See claimed that Durang had infringed his copyright in the play ''Fear of Acting''. ''Li'l Abner'' is a 1956 musical with a book by Norman Panama and Melvin Frank, music by Gene De Paul, and lyrics by Johnny Mercer. Based on the comic strip ''Li'l Abner'' by Al Capp, the show is, on the surface, a broad spoof of hillbillies, but it is also a pointed satire on other topics, ranging from American politics and incompetence in the United States federal government to propriety and gender roles. After several other writers and composers considered musicalizing the comic strip, Al Capp finally made a deal in 1955 with the eventual creators for a musical to be financed by Paramount Pictures, which wanted to follow the stage version with a film musical. The Broadway production opened on November 15, 1956, and ran for a moderately successful 693 performances. ''And Then There Were None'' is a 1943 play by crime writer Agatha Christie. The play, like the 1939 book on which it is based, was originally titled and performed in the UK as ''Ten Little Niggers''. It was also performed under the name ''Ten Little Indians''. Background Christie had been pleased with the book, stating in her autobiography "I wrote the book after a tremendous amount of planning, and I was pleased with what I made of it." The book was very well received upon publication and Christie received a request from Reginald Simpson to be allowed to dramatise it. Christie refused, because she relished the challenge herself although it would take her two years to carry out the task. North Lincoln High School is a public school in Lincolnton, North Carolina, United States. North Lincoln was completed in 2003, and the total student population is approximately 1,050. The school mascot is the Knight, and the school colors (as originally adopted) are Royal Blue, Silver, and Black, with white as an accent color. The principal is Chip Cathey.
