Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and Lady Techsters, commonly abbreviated La. Tech and Dawgs, refer to the sports teams of Louisiana Tech University, in Ruston, Louisiana. The teams compete in Division I of NCAA sports. Since 2013, Louisiana Tech has been a member of Conference USA (C-USA). Sports sponsored As a primary member of Conference USA and an affiliate member of the Southland Bowling League, Louisiana Tech sponsors teams in seven men's and nine women's NCAA sanctioned sports. Baseball The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs baseball team has won 21 regular season conference titles, four conference division titles, and three conference championship series. The Bulldogs have made eight appearances in the NCAA Baseball Tournament (11-16 overall record). Louisiana Tech University (Louisiana Tech, La. Tech, or simply Tech) is a public research university in Ruston, Louisiana. It is part of the University of Louisiana System and classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity". Louisiana Tech opened as the Industrial Institute and College of Louisiana in 1894 during the Second Industrial Revolution. The original mission of the college was for the education of students in the arts and sciences for the purpose of developing an industrial economy in post-Reconstruction Louisiana. Four years later in 1898, the state constitution changed the school's name to Louisiana Industrial Institute. In 1921, the college changed its name to Louisiana Polytechnic Institute to reflect its development as a larger institute of technology. Traditions Of Louisiana Tech University
The traditions of Louisiana Tech University are key aspects to the culture and student life at Louisiana Tech University. The earliest traditions started shortly after the university's founding in the 1890s while other traditions have been introduced more recently. The most notable visible tradition among current students and university alumni is the Lady of the Mist statue and fountain that was constructed in the middle of the Quadrangle in 1938. Tech XXII, the university's official mascot, is present at all football games and most sporting events and special ceremonies. University Lady of the Mist The Lady of the Mist is one of the most recognizable landmarks on the Louisiana Tech Main Campus. The sculpture sits in the midst of a fountain in the middle of the quadrangle (The Quad), one of the focal points of the university and part of the older section of the Main Campus.
