Lina Hjort
Anna Karolina (Lina) Hjort (1881–1959) was a Swedish schoolteacher, house builder and suffragette. Born into poverty in the far north of Sweden, she fought for her survival by collecting and chopping wood, did well at school and attended a teacher training college. She moved from teaching into building houses in Kiruna, gaining success and prosperity. In 1913, she encouraged women in the surrounding villages to support women's suffrage, arranging meetings for the cause in her home. Her life is recorded in her detailed diaries which are held at the Norrbottens Museum. Lydia Wahlström
''Lydia'' Katarina Wahlström (28 June 1869 – 2 June 1954) was a Swedish historian, author and feminist. She was one of the founders of the National Association for Women's Suffrage and its chairman in 1909–1911. Life and career Wahlström was born in Lundby, Västmanland, the youngest, by eleven years, of the four daughter of the vicar Johan Gustaf Wahlström and Ida Schmidt. Her elder sister served as her first teacher and she said that was in some ways raised as a boy, and she enjoyed dressing like one. She studied at the Wallinska skolan in Stockholm, was accepted at the Uppsala University in 1888, became a Bachelor of Arts in history, Nordic languages and Political science and made a disputation in 1898. Frigga Carlberg
Frigga Carlberg, née Anna Fredrika Lundgren (10 August 1851 – 3 October 1925), was a Swedish writer, social worker, feminist and advocate for women's suffrage. She was a member of the central committee of the National Association for Women's Suffrage from 1903 to 1921 and chair of the Gothenburg branch of the Swedish Society for Woman Suffrage from 1902 to 1921. Biography Frigga Carlberg was born in the parish of Falkenberg in Halland County, Sweden. She was born into a wealthy family but had great difficulty to persuade her father to allow her to study. Gulli Charlotta Petrini ( Stockholm, 30 September 1867 – Stockholm, 8 April 1941) was a Swedish Physicist, writer, suffragette, women's rights activist and politician. She was the chairperson of the local branch of the National Association for Women's Suffrage in Växjö 1903–1914 and Stockholm 1914–1921, and sat in the city council for the liberals in Växjö in 1910–1914. Biography She was born on 30 September 1867 to professor Carl Jacob Rossander and Emma Maria Godenius. The National Association for Women's Suffrage ( sv, Landsföreningen för kvinnans politiska rösträtt, LKPR) was a part of the general suffrage movement and the national society for women's suffrage in Sweden. Suffragette
A suffragette was a member of an activist women's organisation in the early 20th century who, under the banner "Votes for Women", fought for the right to vote in public elections in the United Kingdom. The term refers in particular to members of the British Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), a women-only movement founded in 1903 by Emmeline Pankhurst, which engaged in direct action and civil disobedience. In 1906, a reporter writing in the ''Daily Mail'' coined the term ''suffragette'' for the WSPU, derived from suffragist (any person advocating for voting rights), in order to belittle the women advocating women's suffrage. Haparanda
Haparanda (; fi, Haaparanta, , aspen shore or bank) is a locality and the seat of Haparanda Municipality in Norrbotten County, Sweden. It is adjacent to Tornio, Finland. Haparanda had a population of 4,856 in 2010, out of a municipal total of 10,200 inhabitants. Haparanda is, despite its small population, for historical reasons often still referred to as a ''city''. Statistics Sweden, however, only counts localities with more than 10,000 inhabitants as cities. Haparanda is located at the northerly extreme of the Swedish coastline, and far removed from large cities.
