Lin Yutang House
The Lin Yutang House () is a former residence in Shilin District, Taipei, Taiwan that belonged to Lin Yutang. History The house was constructed in 1966. Architecture The house was designed by its owner Lin Yutang in a traditional Chinese style, with four walls enclosing an interior courtyard. It was constructed with blue tiles and white walls. The house consists of a small library displaying a collection of Lin's writings and photos of Lin. Transportation The house is accessible by bus from Shilin Station of Taipei Metro. Shilin District
Shilin District (also spelled Shihlin District, zh, t=士林區, p=Shìlínqū, poj=Sū-lîm-khu) is a district of Taipei. The central command center of the Republic of China Navy (ROCN) is located in Shilin. History The name ''Shilin'' was derived from ''Pattsiran'', the indigenous Ketagalan word for "hot springs". It was then transliterated into Chinese as "" (), which has been written as ''Pat-chi-na'' or ''Pachina''. Prior to Han Chinese settlement, the area was home to the ''Kimassauw'' community () of the Taiwanese indigenous peoples. During the Qing era, a fort was set up, later called Zhilan Yi Bao (first fort/settlement of Pattsiran, ). Lin Yutang
Lin Yutang ( ; October 10, 1895 – March 26, 1976) was a Chinese inventor, linguist, novelist, philosopher, and translator. His informal but polished style in both Chinese and English made him one of the most influential writers of his generation, and his compilations and translations of classic Chinese texts into English were bestsellers in the West. Youth Lin was born in 1895 in the town of Banzai, Pinghe, Zhangzhou, Fujian. His father was a Christian minister. His journey of faith from Christianity to Taoism and Buddhism, and back to Christianity in his later life was recorded in his book ''From Pagan to Christian'' (1959).
