Limoges Métropole
Communauté urbaine Limoges Métropole is the ''communauté urbaine'', an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Limoges. It is located in the Haute-Vienne department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, southwestern France. It was created in November 2002 as the ''Communauté d'agglomération Limoges Métropole'', which was transformed into a communauté urbaine on 1 January 2019. Its area is 520.6 km2. Limoges
Limoges (, , ; oc, Lemòtges, locally ) is a city and Communes of France, commune, and the prefecture of the Haute-Vienne Departments of France, department in west-central France. It was the administrative capital of the former Limousin region. Situated on the first western foothills of the Massif Central, Limoges is crossed by the river Vienne (river), Vienne, of which it was originally the first ford crossing point. The second most populated town in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine, New Aquitaine region after Bordeaux, a University of Limoges, university town, an administrative centre and intermediate services with all the facilities of a regional metropolis, it has an urban area of 323,789 inhabitants in 2018. Le Vigen
Le Vigen (; oc, Lo Vijan) is a commune in the Haute-Vienne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in west-central France. Geography The village lies on the right bank of the Briance, which flows westward through the commune. History The village is said to be the place where Saint Thillo (c. 608–702) died. The church of Saint Mathurin was later built over the oratory where the saint died, although no trace of the oratory has survived. Solignac
Solignac (; oc, Solenhac) is a commune in the Haute-Vienne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in west-central France. Geography The village lies on the right bank of the Briance, which flows westward through the commune. It contains the former Abbey of Solignac, part of the Benedictine order; founded in 631 and rebuilt several times, the current buildings date from the 17th century. Suppressed during the French Revolution and used as a porcelain factory until 1931, the former Abbey church is known as an exceptional example of Romanesque architecture and has been designated a National Historic Monument. On 1st of August, 2021 the community of Benedictine monks returned to the abbey and will be an active religious site once again. Solignac-Le Vigen station has rail connections to Brive-la-Gaillarde and Limoges. Inhabitants are known as ''Solignacois'' in French. Panazol
Panazol (; oc, Panasòu) is a commune in the Haute-Vienne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in west-central France. It is an eastern suburb of Limoges. Panazol is the third largest town in the department (by population), after Limoges and Saint-Junien. It can be considered as a commuter town. Theo Sarapo, the singer, actor, and second husband of Édith Piaf died at Limoges on August 28, 1970 on RD 941 at the Panazol exit, direction Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat (Haute-Vienne). His car, a blue Citroen ID19, left the road at high speed and struck a tree the approximate height of Chateau de la Rue. He was removed from the wreckage and rushed to the Limoges hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries at the age of 34. He was buried in Paris at Père-Lachaise cemetery alongside Édith Piaf.
