Limmo Peninsula
The Limmo Peninsula is an area of Canning Town in the London Borough of Newham in London's East End. It lies on the east bank of Bow Creek at the mouth of the River Lea near Leamouth. Etymology Created in the 1990s, the nearby Bow Creek Ecology Park was formerly known as the Limmo Peninsula Ecological Park. History It was the primary work site for the eastbound tunnel boring machines for Crossrail. Archaeologists working on the Crossrail site in 2012 uncovered remains of the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company. In 2018, Sadiq Khan announced that, following the completion of Crossrail works in 2018, the 12-acre site would be developed for housing – with over 1,500 new homes. West Ham is a constituency created in 1997 and represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2005 by Lyn Brown, a member of the Labour Party. The Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company, Limited was a shipyard and iron works straddling the mouth of Bow Creek at its confluence with the River Thames, at Leamouth Wharf (often referred to as Blackwall) on the west side and at Canning Town on the east side. Leamouth is a locality in the Blackwall area of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The area takes its name from the former ''Leamouth Wharf'' and lies on the west side of the confluence of the Bow Creek stretch of the Lea, at its confluence with the River Thames. The neighbourhood consists of two small peninsulas, separated from the rest of Poplar by the remaining part of the East India Docks. The northern peninsula lies in a hairpin meander and is named ''Goodluck Hope'' after one of the adjacent reaches of the Lea, while the other is known as ''Orchard Place''. The area was traditionally the easternmost part of Middlesex, with Essex on the other side of the Lea. The area was long referred to locally as ''Bog Island'', due to its inaccessibility and propensity to flood; however the building of the Thames Barrier and the artificial raising of the more vulnerable riverside land, means the nickname refers to a now much reduced threat. Sadiq Khan
Sadiq Aman Khan (; born 8 October 1970) is a British politician serving as Mayor of London since 2016. He was previously Member of Parliament (MP) for Tooting from 2005 until 2016. A member of the Labour Party, Khan is on the party's soft left and has been ideologically characterised as a social democrat. Crossrail is a railway construction project mainly in central London. Its aim is to provide a high-frequency hybrid commuter rail and rapid transit system crossing the capital from suburbs on the west to east, by connecting two major railway lines terminating in London: the Great Western Main Line and the Great Eastern Main Line. Canning Town is a district in the London Borough of Newham, East London. Bow Creek Ecology Park is a small open space along Bow Creek tidal estuary of the River Lea in Canning Town in Newham, in east London. It is operated by the regional Lee Valley Park system. Description Bow Creek Ecology Park is a small park running alongside and underneath the Docklands Light Railway near Canning Town Station.
