Limelight Awards
The Limelight Awards were an annual celebration of the performances, recordings and music personalities in Australian classical music. Sponsored by the monthly classical arts magazine '' Limelight'', they were the only publicly voted awards of their kind in Australia. In 2012 the awards attracted more than 4,500 votes. The Limelight Award winners are voted on from a shortlist of entries selected by an expert panel of ''Limelight'' critics and ABC Classic FM staff over ten categories. These categories included Music Personality of the Year, Best Newcomer and Best Orchestral, Chamber and Solo performances. From this shortlist the public were then invited to select and vote for their favourite musicians. The Limelight Awards were distinctly unique, being the only classical music awards in Australia where the public are invited to help recognise well-loved musicians. ''Limelight'', formerly ''ABC Radio 24 Hours'', or simply ''24 Hours'', is an Australian digital and print magazine focusing on music, arts and culture. It is based in Sydney, New South Wales. Originally published by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), after several changes of ownership it is owned by Limelight Arts Media Pty Ltd. History Founded in January 1976, the magazine was originally published under the name ''ABC Radio 24 Hours'', or simply ''24 Hours'', and relaunched as ''Limelight'' in June 2003. ''Band of Brothers'' is the second studio album by the choir Only Men Aloud!. Unlike their self-titled debut, it featured several traditional Welsh songs, the album closing with a version of "Land of My Fathers". Paul Grabowsky
Paul Atherstone Grabowsky (born 27 September 1958) is an Australian pianist and composer. Biography Born in Lae, Papua New Guinea, Grabowsky is a pianist and composer of music for film, theatre and opera. His father Alistair had lived in Papua New Guinea with his wife Charlotte since the 1930s working on oil rigs, building roads, flying planes. Grabowsky described his ancestry as "failed Polish aristocracy". His grandfather was a legitimate Polish Count of the Grabowksi noble family, a descendant of Jan Jerzy Grabowski from where he gets his title; his grandfather was exiled from Poland and lived in Scotland. His older brother Michael took great interest in the young composer and later worked with Paul co-ordinating and producing many of his television and film scores in the 1990s. Paul Dyer (conductor)
Paul William Dyer Order of Australia, AO is an Australian musician, conductor and artistic director. He is the artistic director and co-founder of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and the Brandenburg Choir. He has played an important role in developing historically informed performance practice of Baroque and early music in Australia. Career Dyer studied piano and harpsichord at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and undertook postgraduate studies with Bob van Asperen at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In 1995 he received a Churchill Fellowship to undertake advanced studies in 17th and 18th Century music performance practices in the UK, Netherlands, and France. Australian Brandenburg Orchestra
The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra (ABO) is an Australian period instrument orchestra specialising in the performance of baroque and classical music. Founders The orchestra's founder and artistic director is Paul Dyer. In 2013 Dyer was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for his "distinguished service to the performing arts, particularly orchestral music as a director, conductor and musician, through the promotion of educational programs and support for emerging artists". George Frideric (or Frederick) Handel (; baptised , ; 23 February 1685 – 14 April 1759) was a German-British Baroque composer well known for his operas, oratorios, anthems, concerti grossi, and organ concertos. Robert Schumann
Robert Schumann (; 8 June 181029 July 1856) was a German composer, pianist, and influential music critic. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era. Schumann left the study of law, intending to pursue a career as a virtuoso pianist. Zane Banks (born 1986) is an Australian guitarist from Sydney, who plays both classical and electric guitars in a variety of musical genres. Banks premiered the 1-hour long solo electric guitar work, ''Ingwe'', by composer Georges Lentz. Biography Zane Banks was born in 1986, and both his parents are music teachers. He attended Newtown High School of the Performing Arts.
