Lily Schreyer
Lily Schreyer, (born Lily Schulz; c. 1938) is a former Viceregal consort of Canada, as the wife of former Premier of Manitoba, Manitoba premier and Governor General Edward Schreyer. They married June 30, 1960 and had two daughters, Lisa and Karmel, and two sons, Jason and Toban. She has been involved with Girl Guides of Canada, UNICEF and other charitable organizations. She and her husband were made Companions of the Order of Canada in 1979. She has shown concern for issues related to the physically disabled. As Viceregal consort of Canada, Chatelaine of Rideau Hall she had an accessible entrance and an elevator installed, and suggested the Fountain of Hope, dedicated to Terry Fox, which stands in front of the main entrance. Lily Schreyer is the sponsor of the CCGS Amundsen, CCGS ''Amundsen''. Her father, Jacob Schulz, was a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation Member of Parliament. Jacob Schulz
Jacob (Jake) Shulz (October 12, 1901 – August 14, 1983) was a Canadian farmer and politician as well as the father-in-law of Governor General of Canada, Governor General Ed Schreyer. Shulz was born in Friedensthal, a Bessarabia German community in the Russian Empire, from 1918 part of Romania and today Mirnopolye, Artsyz Raion, Mirnopolye, Ukraine. He came to Canada with his wife in 1930 to become a farmer in the Gilbert Plains area of Manitoba. Maurice Sauvé
Maurice Sauvé, (September 20, 1923 – April 13, 1992) was a Canadian economist, politician, cabinet minister, businessman, and husband of Jeanne Sauvé, 23rd Governor General of Canada. Born in Montreal, Quebec, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1962 federal elections as a Liberal representing the riding of Îles-de-la-Madeleine. He was re-elected in 1963 and 1965. He was defeated in 1968. From 1964 to 1968, he was the Minister of Forestry (after 1966 renamed Minister of Forestry and Rural Development). He was the first President of the World Assembly of Youth (WAY), and served for a period from 1949 to 1952. From 1985 to 1991, he was Chancellor of the University of Ottawa. Gabrielle Léger
Gabrielle Léger, (May 25, 1916 – March 10, 1998) was the wife of the 21st Governor General of Canada Jules Léger and was the Viceregal consort of Canada. Born Gabrielle Carmel in Montreal, she was introduced to Jules Léger, a lawyer studying at the Sorbonne, by friends in 1937 while in Paris and they married on August 13, 1938. They had two daughters Francine and Helene. One of them died in May 1968. Six months after being appointed Governor General in 1974, Jules Léger suffered a stroke. Gabrielle assisted in his rehabilitation by helping him to learn to speak and walk again. She also read the Governor General New Year's message in 1975 and became the first woman to read passages from the Speech from the Throne in 1976 when she read it along with Jules Léger. Her contributions to her husband's term were recognized by her inclusion in Mr. Léger's official portrait, which hangs in the Entrance Hall at Rideau Hall.
