Lilac Chaser
The lilac chaser is a visual illusion, also known as the Pac-Man illusion. It consists of 12 lilac (color), lilac (or pink, rose (color), rose, or magenta), blurred discs arranged in a circle (like the numbers on a clock), around a small black, central cross on a grey background. One of the discs disappears briefly (for about 0.1 seconds), then the next (about 0.125 seconds later), and the next, and so on, in a clockwise direction. When one stares at the cross for at least 30 seconds, one sees three different illusions: #A gap running around the circle of lilac discs; #A green disc running around the circle of lilac discs in place of the gap; #The green disc running around on the grey background, with the lilac discs having disappeared in sequence. The checker shadow illusion is an optical illusion published by Edward H. Adelson, professor of vision science at MIT in 1995. Description The image depicts a checkerboard with light and dark squares, partly shadowed by another object. The optical illusion is that the area labeled A appears to be a darker color than the area labeled B. In vision, filling-in phenomena are those responsible for the completion of missing information across the physiological blind spot, and across natural and artificial scotomata. There is also evidence for similar mechanisms of completion in normal visual analysis. Classical demonstrations of perceptual filling-in involve filling in at the blind spot in monocular vision, and images stabilized on the retina either by means of special lenses, or under certain conditions of steady fixation. For example, naturally in monocular vision at the physiological blind spot, the percept is not a hole in the visual field, but the content is “filled-in” based on information from the surrounding visual field. A blind spot, scotoma, is an obscuration of the visual field. Visual angle is the angle a viewed object subtends at the eye, usually stated in degrees of arc. It also is called the object's angular size. Emmert's Law
Emmert's law states that objects that generate retinal images of the same size will look different in physical size (linear size) if they appear to be located at different distances. Specifically, the ''perceived linear size'' of an object increases as its ''perceived'' distance from the observer increases. This makes intuitive sense: an object of constant size will project progressively smaller retinal images as its distance from the observer increases. Similarly, if the retinal images of two ''different'' objects at different distances are the same, the physical size of the object that is farther away must be larger than the one that is closer. Forbidden Color
is a 1951 novel (禁色 Part 2 was published in 1953) by the Japanese writer Yukio Mishima, translated into English in 1968. The name ''kinjiki'' is a euphemism for same-sex love. The kanji 禁 means "forbidden" and 色 in this case means "erotic love", although it can also mean "color". Opponent Process
The opponent process is a color theory that states that the human visual system interprets information about color by processing signals from photoreceptor cells in an antagonistic manner.
