Liia Hänni
Liia Hänni (née Juulik; born 4 October 1946) is an Estonian astrophysicist, social activist and former politician who voted for the Estonian restoration of Independence. Education Born in Atla, Saare County, Liia Hänni graduated from Saaremaa gymnasium in 1965 and the University of Tartu's Department of Physics in 1970. Research activities From 1970 to 1990, Hänni was a junior researcher and senior researcher of the Estonian Academy of Sciences in Astrophysics and the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (later Tartu Observatory). In 1986, the Observatory defended the candidate's thesis in astrophysics "Investigating the Atmosphere of Red Crayfish by the Synthetic Spectrum Method"."Eesti teaduse biograafiline leksikon", 1. köide Her supervisor was Tõnu Kipper. Mart Laar
Mart Laar (born 22 April 1960) is an Estonian politician and historian. He served as the Prime Minister of Estonia from 1992 to 1994 and from 1999 to 2002. Laar is credited with having helped bring about Estonia's Economy_of_Estonia#Restoration_of_independence,_modernisation_and_liberalisation, rapid economic development during the 1990s. He is a member of the centre-right Isamaa party. In April 2011, Mart Laar became Minister of Defence (Estonia), Minister of Defence in the cabinet of Prime Minister Andrus Ansip and served until his resignation for reasons of health in May 2012. 1990 Estonian Supreme Soviet Election
Elections to the Supreme Soviet were held in the Estonian SSR on 18 March 1990. The pro-independence Popular Front won the plurality (43 seats). The coalition of the reformed Estonian communists, who favored independence but close relations with the USSR and were supported by Indrek Toome who was running under the Free Estonia banner, won 27 seats. The anti-independence, pro-Moscow "Joint Soviet of Work Collectives", representing mostly the ethnic Russian immigrant minority in Estonia, won 25 seats.
