Ligier JS9
The Ligier JS9 was a Formula One racing car manufactured and raced by Ligier during the 1978 Formula One season. Driven by Frenchman Jacques Laffite, its best finish was third (twice). Development The JS9 was designed by Gérard Ducarouge and Michel Beaujon, with Robert Choulet working on aerodynamics. The JS9 had a large rear wing, but did not use the ground effects aerodynamics that was being developed by Lotus and other teams. The Hewland TL200 gearbox of the previous year was upgraded to the more lightweight Hewland FGA 6-speed and it continued to use the Matra MS76 V12 engine. However development of the V12 ceased during the year which may have affected the results achieved by the car. 1978 Argentine Grand Prix
The 1978 Argentine Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 15 January 1978 at Buenos Aires. It was the first race of the 1978 World Championship of F1 Drivers and the 1978 International Cup for F1 Constructors. The 52-lap race was won from pole position by American driver Mario Andretti, driving a Lotus-Ford, with Austrian Niki Lauda second in a Brabham-Alfa Romeo and Frenchman Patrick Depailler third in a Tyrrell-Ford. Équipe Ligier () is a motorsport team, best known for its Formula One team that operated from to . The team was founded in 1968 by former French rugby union player Guy Ligier as a sports car manufacturer. Sports car origins After retiring from racing following the death of his friend Jo Schlesser, Guy Ligier decided to found his own team and had engineer Michel Tétu develop a sports car named Ligier JS1, JS1 (Schlesser's initials). The Cosworth-powered JS1 took wins at Albi and Montlhéry in 1970, but retired at 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans, Le Mans and from the Tour Automobile de France. For 1971, Ligier had the JS1 developed into the Ligier JS2, JS2 and Ligier JS3, JS3. The 1978 Canadian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 8 October 1978 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal. This was the 16th and final race of the 1978 Formula One season, 1978 World Championship of F1 Drivers and the International Cup for F1 Constructors. The 1978 Italian Grand Prix was the 14th motor race of the 1978 Formula One season. It was held on 10 September 1978 at Monza. It was marred by the death of Ronnie Peterson following an accident at the start of the race. With three races remaining, Mario Andretti ( Lotus-Ford) led the World Drivers' Championship by 12 points from his team-mate Ronnie Peterson. The 1978 Austrian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 13 August 1978 at Österreichring. This was Ronnie Peterson's last win before his death at the 1978 Italian Grand Prix. 1978 German Grand Prix
The 1978 German Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 30 July 1978 at the Hockenheimring. Mario Andretti won the race from pole position, ahead of Jody Scheckter and Jacques Laffite. Report This was the debut race of future world champion Nelson Piquet. Mario Andretti took pole with Ronnie Peterson in second and Niki Lauda third. At the start, Peterson got off better and took the lead from Andretti, and held it for four laps before Andretti retook it. The 1978 Monaco Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 7 May 1978 at Monaco. It was the fifth race of the 1978 World Championship of F1 Drivers and the 1978 International Cup for F1 Constructors. The 75-lap race was won by Frenchman Patrick Depailler, driving a Tyrrell-Ford. The 1978 Formula One season was the 32nd season of FIA Formula One motor racing.
