Ligerz railway station (german: Bahnhof Ligerz, french: Gare de Gléresse) is a railway station in the municipality of Ligerz, in the Swiss canton of Bern. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Jura Foot line of Swiss Federal Railways. The station will be closed as part of the building of the Ligerz Tunnel, scheduled to open in 2026. Ligerz (french: Gléresse) is a municipality in the Biel/Bienne administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Ligerz is first mentioned in 1236 as ''Ligerce''. The shore of Lake Biel was inhabited during the neolithic period. A neolithic shoreline settlement has been discovered near the municipal border close to the village of Schafis, which is part of the La Neuveville municipality. Other traces of prehistoric settlements include scattered Bronze Age and Roman era artifacts. During the Middle Ages Ligerz was ruled by the Lords of Ligerz, who held it as a fief for the Counts of Nidau. Their castle, the ''Festi'', first appeared in historical records in 1236. Jura Foot Railway
The Jura Foot Line (french: ligne du Pied-du-Jura, german: Jurafusslinie) or Jura South Foot Line, is a railway line in Switzerland. It runs from Olten along the foot of the southern Jura range through Solothurn, Grenchen, Biel/Bienne, Neuchâtel, Yverdon-les-Bains and Morges to Lausanne. It is one of two routes used by intercity trains between Geneva and Zürich. The other is the Midland line (German: ''Mittellandlinie'') which connects Olten via Langenthal, Burgdorf, Bern, Fribourg, Lausanne to Morges. __NOTOC__ Lake Bienne or Lake Biel (french: Lac de Bienne ; german: Bielersee) is a lake in western Switzerland. Together with Lake Morat and Lake Neuchâtel, it is one of the three large lakes in the Jura region of Switzerland. It lies approximately at the language boundary between German and French speaking areas. Geography The lake is 15 km long and up to 4.1 km wide. Its surface area is 39.3 km², the maximum depth 74 m. Vinifuni Ligerz–Prêles
Vinifuni Ligerz–Prêles is a funicular above Lake Biel in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland. The line leads from Ligerz/Gléresse at 437 m to Prêles at 820 m on Tessenberg, a plateau part of the Jura range. The line has a length of 1198 m with a difference of elevation of 383 m and a maximum incline of 40%. The single track funicular has had only one car since 2004, when the passing loop and the second car were removed. Two intermediate stations are ''Pilgerweg'' at 487 m and ''Festi/Château'' at 577 m. The lower station is next to Ligerz railway station and a landing stage for Lake Biel passenger ships. The line opened in 1910 after the Swiss Federal Assembly granted a concession in 1906.
