Lige Conley
Lige Conley (born Elijah Crommie; December 5, 1897 – December 11, 1937) was an American actor of the silent film, silent era. He appeared in 140 films between 1915 and 1938. Biography As Lige Crommie, the curly-haired young comedian joined the stock company of the Mack Sennett studio in 1915. In 1917 he moved to the up-and-coming Hal Roach studio, then producing one-reel comedies with Harold Lloyd, Bebe Daniels, and Snub Pollard. The Roach comedies credited the actor as "Lige Cromley," but since Lloyd and company dominated their pictures, which were limited to single reels, there was little chance for Lige to distinguish himself. He returned to Sennett as a stock player, again as Lige Crommie. When Sennett director Fred Fishback left Sennett for his own unit at Universal Pictures. Lige soon joined him there. His absurdist, topically pointed radio program ''The Fred Allen Show'' (1932–1949) made him one of the most popular and forward-looking humorists in the Golden Age of American radio. The Battling Kangaroo is a two reel, slap stick comedy film directed by Jules White in 1926. Fox Film Corporation produced and distributed the film. Fox Film released it in the US on December 5, 1926. Sterling Holloway made his motion picture debut in this film. ''Look Pleasant, Please'' is a 1918 American short comedy film featuring Harold Lloyd. A print of the film is held by the Museum of Modern Art. Plot Bebe is one of a group of females who go to a photographer's studio to have their pictures taken. The amorous photographer has "frolicky fingers". When he gets too friendly with Bebe, she telephones her husband who vows to come to the studio to murder the photographer. Shortly afterward, Harold, a dishonest greengrocer, is pursued by a group of policemen. During his flight from them, he happens to enter the photographer's studio.
