Liga Femeilor Române (The Romanian Women's League, The League of the Romanian Women, or only Women's League) was a Romanian organisation for women's rights, founded in 1894.de Haan, Francisca; Daskalova, Krassimira; Loutfi, Anna (eds.). While there had been local women's organisations in Romania before, this was the first long term and national women's organisation with written statues and a firm organisation, and the starting point of an organized women's movement in Romania. Cornelia Emilian
Cornelia Emilian (; 1840–1910) was an Imperial Austrian-born Romanian journalist and women's rights activist. Eugenia De Reuss Ianculescu
Eugenia de Reuss Ianculescu (11 March 1866 – 29 December 1938) was a Romanian teacher, writer, and women's rights activist. She was one of the founders of the Women's League, the first feminist organization in Romania, and later was the founder of the League for Romanian Women's Rights and Duties. Fighting for women's suffrage for fifty years, she wrote novels, delivered lectures, cultivated support of politicians and presented legislative petitions, earning in the year of her death, the right for Romanian women to participate in general elections. Biography Eugenia de Reuss Ianculescu was born on 11 March 1866 in Igești, a village in the Bukovina region of the Austrian Empire, which became Austria-Hungary the following year. Sofia Nădejde
Sofia Nădejde (born Sofia Băncilă; September 14, 1856 – June 11, 1946) was a Romanian novelist, playwright, translator, journalist, women's rights activist and socialist. Born in Botoșani, her parents were merchant Vasile Băncilă-Gheorghiu and his wife Pulheria (''née'' Neculce). Her husband was journalist Ioan Nădejde, and she was the sister of painter Octav Băncilă. She attended primary and girl's boarding school in her native town, taking her high school-leaving examination in Iași. A member of the socialist circle in the latter city, she undertook a sustained journalistic campaign for women's social and political emancipation. Iași ( , , ; also known by other alternative names), also referred to mostly historically as Jassy ( , ), is the second largest city in Romania and the seat of Iași County. Located in the historical region of Moldavia, it has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Romanian social, cultural, academic and artistic life. The city was the capital of the Principality of Moldavia from 1564 to 1859, then of the United Principalities from 1859 to 1862, and the capital of Romania from 1916 to 1918. The International Alliance of Women (IAW; french: Alliance Internationale des Femmes, AIF) is an international non-governmental organization that works to promote women's rights and gender equality. It was historically the main international organization that campaigned for women's suffrage. IAW stands for an inclusive, intersectional and progressive liberal feminism. IAW's principles state that all genders are "born equally free nd areequally entitled to the free exercise of their individual rights and liberty," that "women’s rights are human rights" and that "human rights are universal, indivisible and interrelated."
