''Lifecasting'' is a ballet choreographed by Douglas Lee for the New York City Ballet to the third movement of Ryoji Ikeda's ''Opus 1'' (2000–2001) and Steve Reich's Triple Quartet (1998). The premiere took place on Thursday, 22 January 2009 at the David H. Koch Theater, Lincoln Center. Lee has previously made dances for City Ballet’s New York Choreographic Institute. Costumes were designed by Ines Alda and lighting by Mark Stanley. Douglas Lee (choreographer)
Douglas Lee (born 1977 in London, England) is a British choreographer. A former principal dancer with the Stuttgart Ballet, his ballets have been premiered by Stuttgart Ballet, Norwegian National Ballet, New York City Ballet, Netherlands Dance Theatre, and several other European ballet companies. Life and career Born in London, Douglas Lee started his ballet training at the Arts Educational Schools, London and then received a scholarship for the Royal Ballet School, where he graduated in 1996, winning the Alicia Markova Award. Douglas Lee then joined The Stuttgart Ballet, his promotion to Principal Dancer followed in 2002. As a principal dancer, Lee danced many roles for choreographers such as John Cranko, Jiri Kylian, John Neumeier, Hans Van Manen, Glen Tetley, George Balanchine and William Forsythe. Ballet () is a type of performance dance that originated during the Italian Renaissance in the fifteenth century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. Amar Ramasar
Amar Ramasar (born 1981) is an American ballet dancer and former principal dancer of the New York City Ballet (NYCB). Ramasar joined the NYCB as an apprentice in 2000 and joined the corps de ballet in 2001. As of 2010, Ramasar remained the only person of color who was a principal in NYCB. In 2018, Ramasar was fired from NYCB for sharing explicit pictures of female dancers without their knowledge or consent. In 2019, he made his debut at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome. That same year, a union arbitrator ruled that, while suspension from NYCB was fitting, his firing was too severe a punishment. As a result, the arbitrator ordered Ramasar to be reinstated by the NYCB. In July 2021, the NYCB announced that Ramasar was retiring in May 2022. Craig Hall (dancer)
Craig Hall (born 1979) is an American ballet dancer. He danced with the New York City Ballet as a soloist until 2016 then became a repertory director, and was one of the company interim leaders between late 2017 and early 2019. Early life Hall was born in Maywood, Illinois, and started dance training at age 4. At age 14, he entered the Chicago Academy for the Arts. When he was 18, in 1997, he moved to New York City to train at the School of American Ballet full-time, having previously attended two summer intensives there. Robert Fairchild
Robert Fairchild (born June 9, 1987) is an American dancer and actor. He is best known for originating the role Jerry Mulligan in the musical ''An American in Paris'', and as Munkustrap in the 2019 film ''Cats''. He was a principal dancer at the New York City Ballet. Early life Fairchild was raised in Salt Lake City. His mother is a dietitian and his father worked for Utah's wildlife resources. Georgina Pazcoguin
Georgina Pazcoguin is an American ballerina. She is a soloist with the New York City Ballet, and is known for challenging racism in ballet, and for performing on Broadway. Early life Pazcoguin was born and raised in Altoona, Pennsylvania. She is biracial; her father is a retired surgeon who immigrated from the Philippines after medical school, and her mother is Italian. The third of six siblings, she began training at the Allegheny Ballet Academy when she was four years old in ballet, African, tap and jazz. New York City Ballet (NYCB) is a ballet company founded in 1948 by choreographer George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein.
