LifeArc is a British Medical research, life science medical research charity. It was established in 2000 as MRC Technology to Translational research, translate the work of Medical Research Council (UK), UK Medical Research Council (MRC) research scientists. Today, LifeArc provides intellectual property identification, protection and commercialisation, technology development, diagnostic development, early stage drug discovery and Humanized antibody, antibody humanization services for the MRC, academia, biotechnology and pharmaceutical organisations and charities, aiming to move promising medical research forward into viable and accessible patient treatments. Profits from LifeArc's activities are reinvested into further research. LifeArc uses funds from royalty payments to provide grants into rare disease research and allocates seed funding to UK companies. Melanie Lee
Melanie Georgina Lee CBE (born 29 July 1958) is an English pharmaceutical industry executive and CEO of Medical Research Council Technology, LifeArc, succeeding Dave Tapolczay in November 2018. Career Research Lee received an undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of York, working with Simon Hardy, and then a PhD at National Institute for Medical Research in London. Lee worked as a molecular genetics postdoc, first at Imperial College London on yeast and then from 1985 with Paul Nurse at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, ICRF's London Research Institute#Lincoln.27s Inn Fields laboratories, Lincoln's Inn Laboratories. Nurse's work on the cell cycle won him the Nobel Prize, and in his speech he cited Lee's work on finding a human homologue of the yeast gene cdc2. Nurse said of this work that "I suppose the most astonishing thing was the way Melanie Lee in the lab did it by complementation."
