Lieutenant Governor Of Idaho
The lieutenant governor of Idaho is a constitutional statewide elected office in the U.S. state of Idaho. According to the Idaho Constitution, the officeholder is elected to a four-year term. The current lieutenant governor of Idaho is Republican Janice McGeachin, who took office January 7, 2019. Powers and duties The power of the lieutenant governor of Idaho derives from Article IV, Sections 12 and 13 of the Idaho Constitution, which provides that the office is first in line of succession to the governor of Idaho. It also dictates that the lieutenant governor serves as the presiding officer of the Idaho Senate. The lieutenant governorship has been a constitutional office in Idaho since statehood in 1890. Janice McGeachin
Janice K. McGeachin (; born January 18, 1963) is an American far-right politician and businesswoman serving as the 43rd lieutenant governor of Idaho since January 2019. A member of the Republican Party, she was previously a member of the Idaho House of Representatives from 2002 until 2012. Educated at the University of Arizona, McGeachin owned several businesses in Idaho Falls. She entered politics in 2002 when elected to a seat in the state house. She was elected lieutenant governor in the 2018 election, to serve with the governor, Brad Little. She is the first female lieutenant governor of Idaho. As lieutenant governor, McGeachin aligned herself with Donald Trump and frequently clashed with Little. Philip Eugene Batt (born March 4, 1927) is an American politician who served as the 29th governor of Idaho from 1995 to 1999. Batt had previously served as the 35th lieutenant governor of Idaho, Chair of the Idaho Republican Party, and as a member of the Idaho Legislature. He is a member of the Republican Party. Arnold Williams (May 21, 1898 – May 25, 1970) was an American politician and businessman who served as the 21st governor of Idaho from 1945 until 1947. A member of the Democratic Party, he later served as Idaho's secretary of state from 1959 until 1966. George Elbridge Hill (October 26, 1868 – May 6, 1958) was an American politician who served as the 20th lieutenant governor of Idaho. Hill was elected in 1932 along with Governor C. Ben Ross. Career In 1886, he and his father settled in Rigby, Idaho. His father built a homestead and began to cultivate the land. For four years, Hill assisted him in his agricultural enterprise. In 1890 he returned to Salt Lake City, where he entered college. He also worked as private secretary for Congressman B. H. Roberts and studied law. He also worked as newspaper reporter. In 1902, Hill returned to Idaho.
