Lieutenant Governor Of Alabama
The lieutenant governor of Alabama is the president and presiding officer of the Alabama Senate, elected to serve a four-year term. The office was created in 1868,1868 Const. art. V, § 1 abolished in 1875,1875 Const. art. V, § 1 and recreated in 1901.AL Const. art. V, § 112 According to the current constitution, should the governor be out of the state for more than 20 days, the lieutenant governor becomes acting governor, and if the governor dies, resigns or is removed from office (via impeachment), the lieutenant governor ascends to the governorship. Alexander McKinstry
Alexander McKinstry (March 7, 1822 – October 9, 1879) was the third Lieutenant Governor of Alabama. A Republican, McKinstry served under Governor David P. Lewis of the same political party from 1872 to 1874. He was the last Republican to serve as Lieutenant Governor until Steve Windom was sworn-in 125 years later. Biography A native of Augusta, Georgia, McKinstry moved to Mobile, Alabama, to live with relatives at the age of fourteen. Working odd jobs, McKinstry began reading law while working in the office of John A. Campbell, who would later serve as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1853–1861. Soon after, McKinstry was admitted to the bar and began practicing law in Mobile County. Two years later, in 1847, McKinstry was elected colonel of the 48th Alabama Infantry Regiment, 9th Brigade, 4th Division of the State militia. After serving for three years, McKinstry resigned, returned to Mobile, and served as a judge for the city until 1860. ...

Henry Bramlette Gray (February 8, 1867 – April 30, 1919) of Birmingham, Alabama was born in Calhoun County, Georgia. Gray was an American politician who served as the sixth Lieutenant Governor of Alabama from 1907 to 1911. Family Henry Gray was the son of Zachary Thompson and Hannah Elizabeth Gray and was the grandson of John and Chloe Gray, and of Evan Alexander and Jane (Smith) Kiker. Zachary Gray, his father, was from Stone Mountain, Georgia. His paternal grandparents lived in Summerville, Georgia and his maternal grandparents lived at Calhoun, Georgia. On April 15, 1891, Henry Gray married his wife Bessie in Birmingham, Alabama. Bessie was the daughter of Colonel Alburto and Louise Martin and the granddaughter of John Martin and Judge William S. and Florence Mudd. All of which were from Jefferson County. Russell McWhortor Cunningham
Russell McWhortor Cunningham (August 25, 1855 – June 6, 1921) was an American Democratic politician who was the acting Governor of Alabama from April 25, 1904, to March 5, 1905. He was lieutenant governor when Governor William D. Jelks fell ill and left the state for treatment, and since the Alabama Constitution requires that if the governor leave the state for more than 20 days, the lieutenant governor must act as governor until their return. Although he was de jure only an interim chief of the state administration, because he served as Acting Governor for nearly a year, he is regarded as one of the Alabama Governor by the state government, and his portrait hanging along other Governor's portrait, as well as he figured on official state site alongside them.
