Petra Wenzel
Petra Wenzel (born 20 November 1961 in Grabs, Saint Gallen, Switzerland) is a former alpine skier who competed in the 1980 Winter Olympics and 1984 Winter Olympics representing Liechtenstein. Career Wenzel made her World Cup debut in 1979 at Lake Placid, finishing 18th in the downhill. She was selected to represent Liechtenstein at the 1980 Winter Olympics, where she competed in Slalom, Giant slalom and Downhill races. Her best result was 14th in the slalom competition. She was selected as flagbearer for her country during the opening ceremony. She also represented her Liechtenstein at the 1980 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships finishing 5th in the Giant slalom. She would once again represent her country in the 1982 World Ski Championship in Schladming, finishing 4th in the Giant Slalom. Wenzel continued to compete in the FIS World Cup until 1984. Liechtenstein Olympic Committee (german: Liechtensteinisches Olympisches Komitee) is the National Olympic Committee representing Liechtenstein. Before the organisation was renamed in 2013 it was called "Liechtensteinischer Olympischer Sportverband" (LOSV). Establishment The motive to establish a National Olympic Committee for Liechtenstein was the wish to participate in the Summer Olympic Games and Winter Olympic Games in Germany in the year 1936. Through the engagement of Baron Eduard von Falz-Fein the first NOC of Liechtenstein was founded to meet the formal requirements given by the IOC for the participation in the Olympic Games. This step was successful and for the first time a delegation of two athletes, three shooters and one cyclist was sent to Berlin in the summer to participate in their first Olympic Games for Liechtenstein. Lake Placid is a village in the Adirondack Mountains in Essex County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 2,303. The 1980 Winter Olympics, officially the XIII Olympic Winter Games and also known as Lake Placid 1980, were an international multi-sport event held from February 13 to 24, 1980, in Lake Placid, New York, United States. Lake Placid was elected as the host city for the 1980 Winter Games at the 75th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Vienna, Austria in 1974. Andreas Wenzel
Andreas Wenzel (born 18 March 1958) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Liechtenstein, active from 1976 to 1988. Born in Planken, he was the overall World Cup champion in 1980, the same season in which his older sister Hanni won the women's overall title. He also won two season titles in the combined event, in 1984 and 1985. Paul Frommelt (born 9 August 1957) is a former Alpine skier from Liechtenstein and young brother of Willi Frommelt. Career In the 1970s and 1980s he belonged to the Liechtenstein skiing team together with the siblings Andreas Wenzel and Hanni Wenzel. He was a slalom specialist and he won four slalom competitions in the World Cup. He also came third at the 1978 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary he won a bronze medal in the slalom competition.
