Lidia Zamkow
Lidia Zamkow (1918–1982) was a Polish theatre actress and director. Biography Lidia Zamkow was born on 19 June or 15 July (sources vary), 1918 in Rostov-on-Don. Until 1939 she was studying at the National Institute of Theatre Arts in Warsaw, and after World War II at the State Academy of Drama in Łódź (now Aleksander Zelwerowicz State Theatre Academy). In 1944 she made her own actress' debut in the role of Isia in the Stanisław Wyspiański's ''Wedding'' on Polish Army Theatre in Lublin. In 1948 in Łódź she directed her first spectacle, Bolesław Prus' ''Omyłka''. In the years of 1950–1952, 1957–1958 and the 1964–1972 she was an actress and director of Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Kraków. Jerzy Makarewicz
Jerzy Makarewicz (1907 – 1944) was a Polish painter. Biography In 1929, he began studying at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where he was a student of Władysław Jarocki, and a year later, he advocated the artwork of Stanisław Szukalski, which in effect caused in him to be expelled from the institution. He moved to the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he was taught by Tadeusz Pruszkowski. After completing his studies, he moved to Kraków, where he was taught by Fryderyk Pautsch. In 1936, he bought a circus wagon, and organised a ''travelling workshop'' (''wędrująca pracownia'') - which allowed him to work while travelling. Juliusz Słowacki Theatre
Juliusz Słowacki Theatre ( pl, Teatr im. Juliusza Słowackiego w Krakowie) is a 19th-century Eclectic theatre-opera house in the heart of Kraków, Poland, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Erected in 1893, it was modeled after some of the best European Baroque and Eclectic theatres such as the Palais Garnier in Paris. The theatre was named after Polish poet Juliusz Słowacki in 1909 and in 1978 was inscribed alongside the Historic Centre of Kraków into the World Heritage Register. History Designed by Jan Zawiejski, the theatre was erected on Holy Spirit Square (''Plac Św. Ducha'') in place of the former 14th century church and monastery of religious order 'Duchacy' or Order of the Holy Ghost (hence the name of the square). The church had been converted into a residential building due to secularization of the Polish male branch of the cloister in 1783. Caligula (play)
''Caligula'' is a play written by Albert Camus, begun in 1938 (the date of the first manuscript is 1939) and published for the first time in May 1944 by Éditions Gallimard. It premiered on 26 September 1945 at the Théâtre Hébertot in Paris, starring Gérard Philipe (Caligula), Michel Bouquet and Georges Vitaly and was directed by Paul Œttly. The play was later the subject of numerous revisions. It is part of what Camus called the " Cycle of the Absurd", together with the novel '' The Stranger'' (1942) and the essay ''The Myth of Sisyphus'' (1942). Eugen Berthold Friedrich Brecht (10 February 1898 – 14 August 1956), known professionally as Bertolt Brecht, was a German theatre practitioner, playwright, and poet. Friedrich Dürrenmatt (; 5 January 1921 – 14 December 1990) was a Swiss author and dramatist. He was a proponent of epic theatre whose plays reflected the recent experiences of World War II. The politically active author's work included avant-garde dramas, philosophical crime novels, and macabre satire. Dürrenmatt was a member of the Gruppe Olten, a group of left-wing Swiss writers who convened regularly at a restaurant in the city of Olten. Life Dürrenmatt was born in Konolfingen, canton of Bern, the son of a Protestant pastor. His grandfather, Ulrich Dürrenmatt, was a conservative politician. The family moved to Bern in 1935.
