Liberty Corner is an unincorporated community located in Bernards Township, in Somerset County, New Jersey. Liberty Corner is about 3.75 miles (6 km) south of Bernardsville. Liberty Corner has a post office with ZIP code 07938. The Liberty Corner Historic District was listed on the state and national registers of historic places in 1991. Demographics History In 1722, the area was known by its primary landholder, John Annin, as "Annin's Corner." This was changed to "Liberty Corner" during the American Revolution. On August 29, 1781, the First Brigade of the French Army, the Expédition Particulière, under command of the French general Comte de Rochambeau, camped here by Bullion's Tavern, along the route to Yorktown, Virginia. The Historical Marker Database (HMdb.org) is an online database that documents locations of numerous historical markers in the United States as well as other countries. The database was launched in 2006 by computer programmer J. J. Prats. The HMdb served as the basis for the database for the online augmented reality game Ingress, which was then later repurposed for Pokémon Go. The HMdb was launched in 2006 with 179 markers that Prats had personally documented. By 2015 the site listed more than 74,000 markers. In addition to listing markers in the United States, the site also lists some markers from more than 40 other countries. By the start of 2018, the site documented more than 100,000 markers. William Henry Johnson ( – April 9, 1926), known as Zip the Pinhead, was an American freak show performer known for his tapered head. Early life William Henry Johnson was born one of six children to a very poor African-American family. His parents were William and Mahalia Johnson, former slaves. As he grew, his body developed normally but his head remained small. His tapering cranium and heavy jaw made him attractive to agents from van Emburgh's Circus in Somerville, New Jersey. His unusual appearance caused many to believe that he was a "pinhead", or microcephalic. Microcephaly patients are characterized by a small, tapering cranium and often have impaired mental faculty.
