Liberton High School
Liberton High School is a secondary school in Liberton, in the south of Edinburgh, Scotland, which is located on Gilmerton Road. The school roll for the 2014–15 academic year was 610. Liberton High School has had certain great achievements in sports, such as the undefeated girls hockey XI in 1970-71. In football, they were the first Edinburgh school to win the Scottish Schools Secondary Shield, in 1966. On 1 April 2014, a 12-year-old girl was killed when a wall collapsed in one of the school Physical Education department's changing rooms. It was announced in December 2020 as part of a £80M funding in education that was announced by John Swinney as Deputy First Minister of Scotland that Liberton High School would be rebuilt to replace the original school. David Paton
David Paton (; born 29 October 1949) is a Scottish bassist, guitarist and singer. He first achieved success in the mid-1970s as lead vocalist and bassist of Pilot, who scored hits with "Magic", "January", "Just a Smile" and "Call Me Round" before splitting in 1977. Paton is also known for his work in the original lineup of The Alan Parsons Project (1975-1985), and for working with acts such as Kate Bush, Camel and Elton John. The Corries
The Corries were a Scottish folk group that emerged from the Scottish folk revival of the early 1960s. The group was a trio from their formation until 1966 when founder Bill Smith left the band but Roy Williamson and Ronnie Browne continued as a duo until Williamson's death in 1990. They are particularly known for the song "Flower of Scotland", written by Williamson, which has become an unofficial national anthem of Scotland. Roy Williamson
Roy Murdoch Buchanan Williamson (25 June 1936 – 12 August 1990) was a Scottish people, Scottish songwriter and folk musician, most notably with The Corries. Williamson is best known for writing "Flower of Scotland", which has become the de facto national anthem of Scotland used at international sporting events. Early life Roy Williamson's father, Archibald Moir Macrae Williamson, was an advocate (a lawyer); his mother, Agnes Ethel Cumming Buchanan Williamson, was a talented pianist who frequently took her two sons, Robert and Roy, to musical events. As a schoolboy, Williamson learned to play the recorder (musical instrument), recorder by ear, pretending to read music. A teacher found out and banned him from music lessons. Allan Wells
Allan Wipper Wells (born 3 May 1952) is a Scottish former track and field sprinter who became the 100 metres Olympic champion at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Within a fortnight of that, he also took on and beat America's best sprinters at an invitational meeting in Koblenz. In 1981, Wells was both the IAAF Golden Sprints and IAAF World Cup gold medallist. He is also a three-time European Cup gold medallist among many other sprint successes. He was a multiple medallist for his native Scotland at the Commonwealth Games, winning two golds at the 1978 Commonwealth Games and completing a 100 metres/200 metres sprint double at the 1982 Commonwealth Games. David Martin (Scottish Politician)
David Martin (born 26 August 1954) is a Scottish politician who has served as co-convener of the Citizens' Assembly of Scotland since 2019. A member of the Scottish Labour Party, he was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 1984 to 2019, having first represented the Lothians constituency until 1999 and then for the Scotland constituency. Bruce Hay
Bruce Hamilton Hay (23 May 1950 – 1 October 2007) was a Scotland international rugby union player. Background Hay was born in Edinburgh and educated at Liberton High School. From there he went on to work as an engineer for the National Coal Board. Latterly he worked as a sales representative. Rugby Union career Amateur career Hay was a fullback.
