Liberapay
Liberapay is a platform for recurrent donations via subscriptions. It is maintained by a non-profit organization, also named Liberapay, registered in France. Service The service does not charge a fee on donations aside from that required by the underlying payment processors, instead financing its own activity through donations handled by the service itself in the same way as donations to third-parties are handled. As of October 2020, Liberapay uses payment processors PayPal and Stripe. Unlike other crowdfunding platforms, Liberapay does not allow creators to reward their patrons. This difference in the nature of the transactions has tax implications. For example, Patreon collects VAT on all payments made from inside the European Union whereas Liberapay does not. Pepper&Carrot
''Pepper&Carrot'' is a free and open source webcomic series by French artist David Revoy. It is also published by Glénat Editions. The series consists of small episodes about teenage witch Pepper and her cat Carrot, and with stories without violence it aims to be accessible for everyone. The free license permits the work to be remixed and reused, even for commercial purposes, which has led to derivative works such as animated short films, cosplay, fanart, a card game, a boardgame, several video games, and the work being used in research. As early as 2015, the comics were translated into 28 different languages, but in 2020 it was closer to 50 languages, and 60 in 2022. David Revoy
David Revoy (; born in 1981 in Reims) is a French artist best known as the creator of the free webcomic series '' Pepper&Carrot'' which is translated into some 50 languages and published as books via Glénat. After work in traditional painting, Revoy started using digital tools in 2003 and moved to use free and open-source software around 2009. Revoy publishes a great deal of his work under free licenses, allowing his work to be remixed even for commercial use. This has led to derivations of mainly ''Pepper&Carrot'' such as animated films, cosplay, a card game and several video games. Revoy has expressed excitement about the derivations and often links to them from his web page. He has interpreted freely licensed works and works in the public domain. Patreon (, ) is a membership platform that provides business tools for content creators to run a subscription service. It helps creators and artists earn a monthly income by providing rewards and perks to their subscribers. Patreon charges a commission of 9 to 12 percent of creators' monthly income, in addition to payment processing fees. Lemmy is free and open-source software for running self-hosted social news aggregation and discussion forums. The site has similar features to Reddit or Hacker News. Lemmy instances are run by a large number of individuals or corporations, each with their own content moderation policies. Users on individual instances submit posts with links, text, or pictures to user-created boards called “communities”. Communities are user created and local to each instance, however they may be posted to from other instances. Using a system of upvotes and downvotes users can influence what content appears at the top of the main feeds and of each community. Moderation is conducted by admins of each instance and moderators of specific communities. F-Droid
F-Droid is an app store and software repository for Android, serving a similar function to the Google Play store. The main repository, hosted by the project, contains only free and open source apps. Applications can be browsed, downloaded and installed from the F-Droid website or client app without the need to register for an account. "Anti-Features" such as advertising, user tracking, or dependence on non-free software are flagged in app descriptions. The website also offers the source code of applications it hosts, as well as the software running the F-Droid server, allowing anyone to set up their own app repository. In software engineering, a project fork happens when developers take a copy of source code from one software package and start independent development on it, creating a distinct and separate piece of software. Riseup is a volunteer-run collective providing secure email, email lists, a VPN service, online chat, and other online services. Remmina is a remote desktop client for POSIX-based computer operating systems. PipeWire
PipeWire is a server for handling audio, video streams, and hardware on Linux. It was created by Wim Taymans at Red Hat. It handles multimedia routing and pipeline processing. Mumble (software)
Mumble is a voice over IP (VoIP) application primarily designed for use by gamers and is similar to programs such as TeamSpeak. Mumble uses a client–server architecture which allows users to talk to each other via the same server. It has a very simple administrative interface and features high sound quality and low latency. All communication is encrypted. Mumble is free and open-source software, is cross-platform, and is released under the terms of the BSD-3-Clause license.
