This article gives an overview of liberalism in North Macedonia. North Macedonia was not an independent country before 1991, so the parties from Serbia and Yugoslavia were active before that year. North Macedonia, ; sq, Maqedonia e Veriut, (Macedonia before February 2019), officially the Republic of North Macedonia,, is a country in Southeast Europe. It gained independence in 1991 as one of the successor states of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Yugoslavia. Young Democratic-Progressive Party
The Young Democratic-Progressive Party ( mk, Млада демократско-прогресивна странка, ''Mlada Demokratsko-Progresivna Stranska'', MDPS) was a political party in Macedonia led by Risto Ivanov. Politics in North Macedonia occur within the framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic, whereby the Prime Minister is the head of government, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature. The Democratic Party ( mk, Демократска партија, ''Demokratska Partija'', DP) was a political party in Macedonia. History The establishment of the party was announced by Petar Gošev in April 1993 after he left the Social Democratic Union, which he had previously headed. Stojan Andov ( mk, Стојан Андов; born 30 November 1935) is a Macedonian politician, a founding member of the Liberal Party of Macedonia and a former president of Parliament from 1993 to 1997. Early years and education Stojan Andov was born in Kavadarci, North Macedonia (formerly Yugoslavia) in November 1935, where he attended primary school and high school. Andov graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Skopje, and received a master's degree at the University of Belgrade. He lived in Belgrade from 1975 to 1981 with his wife, Marija.
