Liberal PD
Liberal PD ( it, Liberal PD) is a social-liberal faction within the Democratic Party (PD), a political party in Italy. The aim of the group is to promote liberal ideas within the party and elect liberal candidates. The faction, through the Italian Liberal Group, is an observer member of the Liberal International. Liberal PD was launched on 26 January 2008 by Enzo Bianco (former member of the Italian Republican Party, PRI and Democracy is Freedom – The Daisy, DL), Franco Bassanini (former member of the Italian Socialist Party, PSI and the Democrats of the Left, DS), Valerio Zanone (former leader of the Italian Liberal Party and member of DL) and Enrico Morando (leader of Liberal DS). Enzo Bianco
Enzo Bianco (born 24 February 1951) is an Italian politician, former mayor of Catania and former Minister of the Interior. Early life Bianco was born on 24 February 1951 in Aidone, province of Enna, Italy. Career Bianco has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 1992 to 1993 with the Italian Republican Party and from 2001 to 2006 with The Olive Tree. He has then been Senator from 2006 to 2013 with the Democratic Party. Bianco has been Minister of interior from 1999 to 2001 in the D'Alema II Cabinet and in the Amato II Cabinet. The Democrats of the Left ( it, Democratici di Sinistra, DS) was a social-democratic political party in Italy. The DS, successor of the Democratic Party of the Left (PDS) and the Italian Communist Party, was formed in 1998 upon the merger of the PDS with several minor parties. A member of The Olive Tree coalition, in October 2007 the DS merged with Democracy is Freedom – The Daisy and a number of minor centre-left parties to form the Democratic Party. Beatrice Rangoni Machiavelli is an Italian politician, author, and activist. She was President of the Economic and Social Committee of the European Union from 1998 to 2000. Adolfo Battaglia (born 10 February 1930) is an Italian journalist who served as the minister of industry, commerce and craftsmanship between 1987 and 1991 in three successive cabinets. Giorgio Bogi
Giorgio (Bíró) Bogi (born 24 June 1929 in La Spezia), is an Italian surgeon and politician. Biography He graduated in medicine and surgery, and worked as a doctor until the 1970s. He was latterly the head physician of a hospital in La Spezia. He was a member of the Italian Republican Party, and in 1972 was elected as an MP for the first time. He was then re-elected continuously until the XIV Legislature in 2001. Antonio Maccanico
Antonio Maccanico (4 August 1924 – 23 April 2013) was an Italian constitutional specialist and social liberal politician, who served in various capacities in the parliament and federal administrations of Italy. Early life and education Maccanico was born on 4 August 1924 in Avellino. He graduated in law at the University of Pisa in 1946. Career Maccanico began his career at the house of deputies as a referendary in June 1947. He worked in different commissions in the house. He also served as the general secretary in the office of the Italian President Sandro Pertini for nine years. He was the president of Italian investment bank, Mediobanca, from 1987 to 1988 which was privatised during his term. He succeeded Enrico Cuccia in the aforementioned post. Walter Veltroni
Walter Veltroni (; born 3 July 1955) is an Italian writer, film director, journalist, and politician, who served as the first leader of the Democratic Party within the centre-left opposition, until his resignation on 17 February 2009. He served as Mayor of Rome from June 2001 to February 2008. Early life Veltroni was born in Rome. His father, Vittorio Veltroni, an eminent RAI manager in the 1950s, died only one year later.
