Liberal Democratic Pole
The Liberal Democratic Pole ( it, Polo Liberal Democratico, PLD) was a liberal political party in Italy active during 1994. The PLD was founded by Adriano Teso and Carlo Usiglio, who had left the Segni Pact with the aim of creating a centre-right alliance. The party was a member of the Pole of Freedoms alliance. In the 1994 general election Teso and Usiglio were elected in the Chamber of Deputies with the Pole of Freedoms. Instead the PLD presented itself in the colleges where was present the Pole of Good Government. The Segni Pact ( it, Patto Segni), officially called Pact of National Rebirth (''Patto di Rinascita Nazionale''), was a Christian-democratic, centrist and liberal political party in Italy. The party was founded and named after Mario Segni, a former member of the Christian Democrats who was a prominent promoter of referendums. Centre-right politics lean to the right of the political spectrum, but are closer to the centre. The Pole of Good Government ( it, Polo del Buon Governo) was a centre-right electoral, and later political alliance in Italy, launched at the 1994 general election by Silvio Berlusconi. Its counterpart in Northern Italy was the Pole of Freedoms. History The alliance was composed primarily of Forza Italia (FI) and the National Alliance (AN), but also included the Christian Democratic Centre (CCD), Union of the Centre (UdC) and Liberal Democratic Pole (PLD). The Pole of Good Government was present only in most of Southern Italy, while the Pole of Freedoms, composed of Forza Italia and the Lega Nord, without the National Alliance, was present in Northern Italy. The Pole of Freedoms ( it, Polo delle Libertà) was a centre-right political and electoral alliance in Italy, launched at the 1994 general election by Silvio Berlusconi. Its counterpart in central and southern Italy was the Pole of Good Government. 1994 Italian General Election
The 1994 Italian general election was held on 27 and 28 March 1994 to elect members of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic for the 12th legislature. Silvio Berlusconi's centre-right coalition won a large majority in the Chamber of Deputies but just missed winning a majority in the Senate. The Italian People's Party, the renamed Christian Democracy (DC), which had dominated Italian politics for almost half a century, was decimated. The first Berlusconi government was the 51st government of the Italian Republic. It was the first right-wing and non-Christian Democrats government since World War II. Berlusconi resigned on 22 December 1994. History In order to win the March 1994 general election Berlusconi formed two electoral alliances: Pole of Freedoms with the Northern League in northern Italian districts, and another, the Pole of Good Government, with the post-fascist National Alliance (heir to the Italian Social Movement) in central and southern regions.
