Liberal Democratic Party (Bangladesh)
The Liberal Democratic Party ( bn, লিবারেল ডেমোক্রেটিক পার্টি) is a political party in Bangladesh. The party was formed after abolishing Bikolpo Dhara on 26 October 2006 by former President of Bangladesh Dr. A. Q. M. Badruddoza Chowdhury, Dr. Oli Ahmad Bir Bikram, and 24 other former members of parliament and ministers from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Soon after its formation Dr. B. Chowdhury left LDP with his followers back to Bikalpa Dhara again. Thereafter, Dr. Oli Ahmad was elected as President and Former Speaker Sheikh Razzak Ali as Executive President of the party. From its inception LDP was an ally of the Grand Alliance. However, before the 2008 election, ''LDP'' came out of the grand alliance and contested the elections on their own. Oli Ahmed
Colonel (Retd) Oli Ahmad, Bir Bikrom, is a Bangladeshi former minister & member of Parliament. He is a valiant freedom fighter and former Army officer. He is president of the Liberal Democratic Party of Bangladesh. Biography Ahmad was the first Bengali Military officer to revolt against the Pakistani army on 25 March 1971 before the start of the Bangladesh Liberation War. He was the first officer to be awarded the Bir Bikrom for his bravery during that war. He fought under Major Ziaur Rahman in Sector No. 1. Ahmad is highly regarded as one of the key founding members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). On 26 October 2006, Ahmad and several other senior leaders of the BNP defected to form the Liberal Democratic Party. At present he is serving as President of Liberal Democratic Party, #1 registered political party of Bangladesh. 2008 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 29 December 2008. The two main parties in the election were the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Khaleda Zia, and the Bangladesh Awami League Party, led by Sheikh Hasina. The Bangladesh Awami League Party formed a fourteen-party Grand Alliance including Ershad's Jatiya Party, while the BNP formed a four-party alliance which included the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami. The election was originally scheduled for January 2007, but it was postponed by a military-controlled caretaker government for an extended period of time. The elections resulted in a landslide victory for the Awami League-led grand alliance, which won 263 seats out 300. Sheikh Razzak Ali (28 August 1928 – 7 June 2015) was a Bangladeshi politician, Deputy Law Minister of State and Deputy Speaker and two time Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Speaker of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad. Redwan Ahmed
Redwan Ahmed is a Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party politician and a former state minister of liberation war affairs. He is a 4-term Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Comilla-6 and Comilla-10 constituencies.
