Liam Patrick
Liam Patrick (born 4 March 1988) is an Australian rules footballer who was picked up by Gold Coast as a zone selection after the 2009 National Draft. He made his debut against Essendon in round 6 of 2011 season. Early life Patrick was born in Lajamanu, Northern Territory into an indigenous family and is the second eldest of three children. Upon moving to the Gold Coast at the end of 2009 at the age of 21 he left behind his girlfriend and son to chase his dream of becoming an AFL player. Junior Football Patrick began playing junior football at the Lajamanu Football Club who compete in the Katherine District Football League. After being a part of the premiership winning team at the Lajamanu Swans in 2008 he began playing for the Wanderers Football Club in the Northern Territory Football League in 2009. Lajamanu, Northern Territory
Lajamanu, formerly known as Hooker Creek Native Settlement or just Hooker Creek, is a small town of the Northern Territory of Australia. It is located around from Katherine, Northern Territory, Katherine and approximately from Darwin, Northern Territory, Darwin. At the 2016 Australian census, Lajamanu had a population of 606, of whom 89.3 percent are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander origin, chiefly Warlpiri people. History Lajamanu was established in 1949, on the site of the former Hooker Creek station. The government moved Walpiri people from Yuendumu, only succeeding on the fourth attempt, after people had simply walked back their own communities on the first three attempts. 2011 AFL Season
The 2011 AFL season was the 115th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season featured seventeen clubs, with the newly established Gold Coast Suns, based in Gold Coast, Queensland, playing its inaugural season. The season ran from 24 March until 1 October, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. The premiership was won by the Geelong Football Club for the ninth time, after it defeated by 38 points in the 2011 AFL Grand Final. The QClash is the name given to the Australian rules football rivalry match between the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns, who both participate in the Australian Football League (AFL). The first QClash was held in 2011, with Gold Coast winning by 8 points. The game established the highest pay TV audience ever for an AFL game, with a total of 354,745 viewers watching the game. Background The QClash was promoted by the league, the clubs and the football media as a name for the game, in similar terms to the other local derbies that exist in the AFL, such as the Western Derby and Showdown. The Brisbane Lions is a professional Australian rules football club based in Brisbane, Queensland, that plays in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was formed in late 1996 via a merger of the Melbourne-based 1883 foundation VFL club the Fitzroy Lions, and the 1987 Queensland based expansion club the Brisbane Bears, with the colours of maroon, blue, and gold being drawn from both parent clubs.
