Li Cheng (painter)
Li Cheng (; 919–967), Courtesy name Xiánxī (咸熙), was a Chinese painter of the Song dynasty. He was influenced by Jing Hao, Juran. Life He is from Qingzhou (now part of Weifang, Shandong) during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms and early Song Dynasty. His ancestral lineage was with the Tang Dynasty imperial family, the Li (李) family, which had fallen out of power in 907 with the collapse of the Tang Empire. Li Cheng learned painting style from Jing Hao and Guan Tong at first but turned to focus on nature and developing his own style. He was also good at poetry and articles; but he did not pay much attention to that. He was not interested in working for the government. Many nobles wanted Li Cheng to work for them, but Li Cheng never accepted. An official named Sun Anzhi, who always wanted to get a painting from Li Cheng, offered Li a job in exchange for his painting. However, Li Cheng refused the offer. Hồ Nguyên Trừng (chữ Hán: 胡元澄, pinyin Hu Yuancheng; also known as Lê Trừng, ; 1374? – 1446?) was a Trần dynasty, Vietnamese scholar, official, and engineer in exile in Ming dynasty, China. He was the oldest son of Emperor Hồ Quý Ly (1336–1407) and older brother of Emperor Hồ Hán Thương. Cheng Li () is a Chinese-American scholar specializing in Chinese elite politics and contemporary Chinese society; he has served as the director of the John L. Thornton China Center at the Brookings Institution since 2014, replacing Kenneth Lieberthal in the role. Li is a prominent authority on Chinese politics, specifically leadership dynamics and the changes in leaders over generations. Early life and education Li grew up in the city of Shanghai during the Cultural Revolution, and was at one point a barefoot doctor in his community. He is a graduate of East China Normal University. In 1985, he came to the United States for graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley. He later received a Ph.D. from Princeton University.
