Lewys Daron
Lewys Daron (''fl.'' ''c.'' 1495 – ''c.'' 1530) was a Welsh language, Welsh-language professional poet from the Llŷn Peninsula, Llŷn area of Gwynedd, Wales. Although not considered to be one of the foremost of the Poets of the Nobility, his work provides a portrait of the gentry society of north-west Wales at the start of the Tudor dynasty, Tudor period. On the basis of his name and a reference to him in a later 16th-century manuscript in the hand of the antiquary Thomas Wiliems, it can confidently be accepted that he was a native of the parish of Aberdaron in Llŷn. His date of birth is not known and our knowledge of him depends almost entirely on the evidence of his poetry, of which 28 poems survive. He was a friend of the Anglesey poet Lewys Môn, one of the most important poets of that period. He probably died in the early 1530s and was buried in Nefyn. Lewys Dwnn (c. 1550–1616) was a Welsh poet and Welsh genealogist. Also known as Lewys ap Rhys ab Owain. Lewys Dwnn originated from Bettws Cedewain in Montgomeryshire and claimed descent from a David Dwnn of Kidwelly. Welsh genealogist Lewys Dwnn composed many Welsh pedigrees and genealogical manuscripts which survive to this day and offer a valuable insight into the lineage of medieval bards and poets, some probably known to him and some of the generation preceding his. These are now found in both the British Museum and the National Library of Wales. Lewys Glyn Cothi
Lewys Glyn Cothi (c. 1420 – 1490), also known as Llywelyn y Glyn, was a prominent 15th century Welsh poet who composed numerous poems in the Welsh language. He is one of the most important representatives of the ''Beirdd yr Uchelwyr'' ("Poets of the Nobility") or ''Cywyddwyr'' ("cywydd-men"), the itinerant professional poets of the period between the 1284 Statute of Rhuddlan and c. 1600. Life He was born in c.1420, possibly at Pwllcynbyd farm, near the remote hamlet of Rhydycymerau in the parish of Llanybydder in south-west Wales: he took his bardic name from the nearby forest of Glyn Cothi in the Cothi valley.A 19th century tradition also suggests he grew up in a now vanished house in Cwm Cothi with the unfortunate name of Pwlltinbyd ("the world's arsehole"). Lewys Glyn Dyfi
Lewis Meredith (22 March 1826 – 29 September 1891), known also as Lewys Glyn Dyfi, was a Welsh preacher and writer. Born on 22 March 1826 near Machynlleth, Meredith attended day and Sunday schools at Machynlleth until his family moved to Cwmllinau wherein was educated in Cemaes. He was involved in the founding of a literary society in Machynlleth c. 1854. At this time, he worked for the printer Adam Evans. While he began preaching to the Wesleyans in 1849, the uncertainty of his health prevented him from being accepted for the ministry in 1855. In 1855-6 he oversaw the Welsh Wesleyans at Witton Park, Durham before emigrating to the U.S.A. He spent a year at a seminary and was consequently accepted as a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Meredith nonetheless maintained his links to Wales by writing to the ''Eurgrawn'' and the ''Drych'' magazines, and by taking charge of Chicago's Welsh Wesleyan church. Lewys Morgannwg ( fl. 1520–65) was a Welsh language poet from Morgannwg, south Wales. He lived at St. Bride's Major Lewys was one of the foremost poets of the sixteenth century. Most of his poems that have survived are eulogies and elegies in strict metre. Lewys was the household poet to Sir William Griffith of Penrhyn. He was also a bardic teacher, most notably of Gruffudd Hiraethog Gruffudd Hiraethog (died 1564) was a 16th century Welsh language poet, born in Llangollen, north-east Wales.
