Peterborough
Peterborough () is a cathedral city in Cambridgeshire, east of England. It is the largest part of the City of Peterborough unitary authority district (which covers a larger area than Peterborough itself). It was part of Northamptonshire until 1974, when county boundary change meant the city became part of Cambridgeshire instead. Elite League (speedway)
The Elite League was the top division of speedway league competition in the United Kingdom, governed by the Speedway Control Bureau (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). It was sponsored by Sky Sports until the end of the 2013 season. In 2016, the Elite League featured 8 teams, unlike 10 in 2014, during a season which ran between March and October. Each team had a designated race day on which they normally staged their home fixtures, and they regularly had home and away fixtures scheduled in the same week. The Elite League operated for 20 years until British speedway was restructured with the formation of the SGB Premiership and SGB Championship. Cameron Andrew George Heeps (born 27 October 1995) is an Australian speedway rider. Career He began his British career riding for the Mildenhall Fen Tigers in 2011, winning the Knockout Cup. He won the National League Pairs Championship with Lewis Blackbird, held at Mildenhall Stadium, on 22 July 2012. Heeps joined Ipswich Witches in 2012 and has appeared for them during most of the next ten seasons. In between he had spells at Rye House Rockets during the 2016 Premier League speedway season, the Somerset Rebels and Wolverhampton Wolves. In 2019, he had a season with the Edinburgh Monarchs. In 2021 he rode for Ipswich and Kent. In 2022, he rode for the Ipswich Witches in the SGB Premiership 2022 and the Oxford Cheetahs in the SGB Championship 2022. Simon Nielsen (born 1 October 1990) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Denmark. Career Born in Stenlille, Nielsen won 2005 Individual Speedway FIM Youth Gold Trophy 80 cc, unofficial U-16 World Championship. He rode in the Denmark U-19 national team. In 2011, he came to the UK to try to get a team place and got a place in the Workington Comets team towards the end of the season. Long Eaton Invaders
Long Eaton motorcycle speedway teams operated from 1950 until 1997 in Long Eaton, England. Teams have raced at the Long Eaton Stadium as the Long Eaton Archers, Long Eaton Rangers, Nottingham Outlaws and the Long Eaton Invaders. The Invaders returned in 2011, with home meetings taking place at the Leicester Lions' track. History Speedway events had been hosted at Long Eaton from as early as 1929, the first meeting being on 18 May 1929. The team were founder members of the 1929 Speedway English Dirt Track League but withdrew and had their results expunged. The ''Derby Evening Telegraph'' described the oval circuit as having four laps to the mile, with straights and the bends 'to allow broadsiding at 60 mph'. The last meeting of this era was on 10 June 1930. Speedway events returned to Long Eaton in 1950 with a team initially called the "Archers". The team operated until 1953 when the promotion closed. The Premier League was the second tier of Motorcycle speedway, speedway in the United Kingdom (with the exception of the 1995 and 1996 seasons) and governed by The Speedway Control Bureau (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). The Premier League was founded in 1995 when the two divisions of the British League were amalgamated. In 1997, the Elite League (speedway), Elite League was created as a new top tier with the Premier League becoming the second tier. The league operated until 2016 when British speedway was restructured with the formation of the SGB Premiership and SGB Championship. As of 2016, there were 13 teams competing in this tier of British Speedway, contesting 6 competitions for silverware. King's Lynn Stars
King's Lynn Stars are a motorcycle speedway team who compete in the SGB Premiership. The nickname "Stars" comes from the defunct Norwich Stars team. The team was founded in 1965 and has been running continually since then, except for 1996 when King's Lynn failed to have a team competing in the British league system. History 1966–1995 The team's inaugural season was the 1966 British League season, where they finished 16th. They managed to finish in third place during the 1972 and 1973 seasons with their strongest riders being Terry Betts and Malcolm Simmons. The first silverware won by the team was the Knockout Cup in 1977. They won the final by the small margin of two points on aggregate, thanks largely to Michael Lee and Betts.
