Jasper County, South Carolina
Jasper County is the southernmost county in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 28,791. Its county seat is Ridgeland and its largest city is Hardeeville. The county was formed in 1912 from portions of Hampton County and Beaufort County. Jasper County is included in the Hilton Head Island–Bluffton, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located in the Lowcountry region of the state. For several decades, in contrast to neighboring Beaufort County, Jasper was one of the poorest counties in the state. Recent development from 2000 onwards has given the county new residents, expanded business opportunities, and a wealthier tax base. South Carolina Highway 315
South Carolina Highway 315 (SC 315) is a state highway, serving as a more direct route between Savannah, Georgia and several Lowcountry communities in the U.S. state of South Carolina through southern Jasper County. Once the original alignment of SC 170 (until 1994) and SC 170 Alternate (SC 170 Alt.), this route was renumbered in 2010 to clarify conflicting and confusing route alignments. The route, known for the entire length as South Okatie Highway, also serves the unincorporated community of Levy. Route description The route travels generally in a south to north direction and is a two-lane road for the entire length. SC 315 begins about five miles north of the Georgia state line at a flashing light intersection with U.S. Highway 17. Seaboard Air Line Railroad
The Seaboard Air Line Railroad , which styled itself "The Route of Courteous Service," was an American railroad which existed from April 14, 1900, until July 1, 1967, when it merged with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, its longtime rival, to form the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. Predecessor railroads dated from the 1830s and reorganized extensively to rebuild after the American Civil War. The company was headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, until 1958, when its main offices were relocated to Richmond, Virginia. The Seaboard Air Line Railway Building in Norfolk's historic Freemason District still stands and has been converted into apartments. At the end of 1925 SAL operated 3,929 miles of road, not including its flock of subsidiaries; at the end of 1960 it reported 4,135 miles.
