Leverett's Chapel Independent School District
Leverett's Chapel Independent School District is a public school district located in northwestern Rusk County, Texas that serves the unincorporated communities of Leverett's Chapel and Laird Hill. In 2017 it founded its academic rodeo team ,and in 2021 has started a junior high basketball team. Academic achievement In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. Rusk County is a county located in Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 52,214. Its county seat is Henderson. The county is named for Thomas Jefferson Rusk, a secretary of war of the Republic of Texas. Laird Hill, Texas
Laird Hill is an unincorporated community in northwestern Rusk County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 405 in 2000. It is located within the Longview, Texas metropolitan area. History The area in what is known as Laird Hill today was named for a local family of settlers. It was originally known as Pistol Hill during the East Texas oil boom. The community's first postmaster was Ignatius S. Crutcher, who was appointed in 1936. Its population was 500 in 1940 with eight businesses; this went down to 461 and four businesses in 1970 and ended at 405 from 1980 through 2000, and the number of businesses went up from one to five. On April 25, 1957, an F3 tornado struck the community. Geography Laird Hill is located on Texas State Highway 42, just southwest of Kilgore on the northern boundary of Rusk County. Six-man football is a variant of gridiron football played with six players per team, instead of the standard 11 or 12. It is generally played by high schools in rural areas of the United States and Canada. History Six-man football was developed in 1934 by Stephen Epler in Chester, Nebraska, as an alternative means for small high schools to field a football team during the Great Depression. The first game was played on Thursday, September 27, 1934, at the Hebron, Nebraska Athletic Gridiron, under the lights, with a crowd of almost 1000 watching. This game was played so that coaches all over Kansas and Nebraska could see if they wanted to try this new game of six-man.
