Levenslied Songs
Levenslied ( Dutch, literally "life song" or "song about life") is a sentimental Dutch-language subgenre of popular music. ''Levenslied'' lyrics can be sweet or bitter, light and sentimental, but also reflective and dark, about subjects such as love, misery and far-away, sunny, exotic holiday places. The darker, more sentimental songs are also known as "smartlap" (literally: "grief cloth"). The levenslied is related to the '' chanson'' though for a lower-class audience, like the schlager. A typical levenslied has catchy, simple rhythms and melodies and is built up in couplets and refrains. Traditional musical instruments in levenslied music are the accordion and the barrel organ. Modern levenslied artists also use synthesizers and guitars. The songs are usually in Dutch but also English or Italian. Frans Bauer
François (Frans) Bauer (born 30 December 1973 in Roosendaal as François van Dooren) is a Dutch singer of "levenslied" (Dutch Schlager). Biography Frans Bauer was born as François van Dooren, after his mother Wies van Dooren who wasn't married to his father Chris Bauer (1944-2015) at the time. From an early age, Frans Bauer was determined to become a singer. His great idols are Julio Iglesias, Elvis Presley and Koos Alberts. By the latter, he was sometimes brought on stage to sing along with ''Ik verscheurde je foto'' (''I tore up your photo''). Bauer's own musical career was shaped in 1987, when he recorded his first single ''Ben je jong'' (''Are you young'') under the supervision of producers Riny Schreijenberg and Emile Hartkamp. Sieneke Ashley Kristel Baum-Peeters (born 1 April 1992) is a Dutch singer. She performed the Dutch entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 semi-final. Sieneke released an album with six covers of songs from the 1980s, called ''It's My Dream'', in 2007. Besides her singing career, she is a trained hairstylist. Dries Roelvink (born 1 January 1959 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch singer of the '' Levenslied'' genre. Manke Nelis
Manke Nelis (born Cornelis Pieters; 1919-1993) was a Dutch singer in the levenslied genre. Career Manke Nelis was born in Groenlo on 16 December 1919 and began his musical career as a bass player, often accompanying his brother-in-law, accordionist Johnny Meijer. In the 1950s he performed under the stage name Carlo Pietro and started singing the Amsterdam ''levenslied''. A motorcycle accident in France and a subsequent medical error cost him a leg; he reportedly spent the more than 100,000 guilders he received as compensation within a year. His biggest hit was "Kleine Jodeljongen" in 1987. In 1987 he narrowly survived a bus crash on an American tour with Dutch artists, near San Diego. He died of cancer 8 October 1993, at age 73. Petrus Antonius Laurentius Kartner (11 April 1935 – 8 November 2022) was a Dutch musician, singer-songwriter and record producer who performed under the stage name Vader Abraham (''Father Abraham''). He wrote around 1600 songs. Early life and songwriting Kartner was born on 11 April 1935. He started his singing career at the age of eight, by winning a local festival.
