Level (instrument)
A level is an optical instrument used to establish or verify points in the same horizontal plane in a process known as levelling, and is used in conjunction with a levelling staff to establish the relative height levels of objects or marks. It is widely used in surveying and construction to measure height differences and to transfer, measure, and set heights of known objects or marks. It is also known as a surveyor's level, builder's level, dumpy level or the historic "Y" level. It operates on the principle of establishing a visual level relationship between two or more points, for which an inbuilt telescope and a highly accurate bubble level are used to achieve the necessary accuracy. Traditionally the instrument was completely adjusted manually to ensure a level line of sight, but modern automatic versions self-compensate for slight errors in the coarse levelling of the instrument, and are thereby quicker to use. The optical level should not be confused with a theodolite, whic ...

Levél
Levél (german: Kaltenstein) is a village in Győr-Moson-Sopron county, Hungary. Geography Levél is in the north-west of Hungary, close to the M1 motorway between Mosonmagyaróvár and Hegyeshalom. It is on the international bicycle road to Hegyeshalom and Rajka. History The village was first mentioned as ''Kalthostan'' in a German text of 1410. The Hungarian name first appears in a tax registration in 1532. The Turkish local governor depopulated the village in 1529. In 1570 Maximilian II deported the Württemberg Saxons to the area. The French occupation of 1809 resulted in economic hardship for the population. The village gained access to electricity in 1926. In the Second World War the village's agricultural produce and livestock was requisitioned by the Wehrmacht, leading to food shortages. Most of German population was deported after the war. During the Communist era, the area saw economic growth brought on by state investment. Demographics The population of the ...

The Level, Brighton
The Level is an urban park in central Brighton, on the south coast of England. The park is a triangle of bounded by Union Road to the north, Richmond Terrace (A270) to the east, and Ditchling Road ( A23) to the west. In the past, the land has been used as a cricket ground for the Prince of Wales and as a setting for large-scale dinner parties to commemorate events such as the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte and the coronation of Queen Victoria. The Level is often used for public meetings and gatherings. These have included May Day events, a 1983 peace camp and the Brighton Urban Free Festival. Present day features of the park include a grassed area with elm trees and outdoor seating, a skatepark, public toilets, a rose garden, a children's playground and a water feature. The park was substantially redeveloped from 2009 onwards. Overview The Level is in central Brighton, about north of the seafront. It now covers but was originally much bigger, encompassing the present-day Vi ...

Level (airline)
Fly LEVEL SL, trading as Level, is an airline brand under which airlines owned by the International Airlines Group (IAG) operate low-cost flights. The brand has a registered office in Madrid, Spain. Level was marketed initially as a low-cost, long-haul carrier, and began transatlantic services from Barcelona–El Prat Airport in June 2017. In July 2018, Level expanded with long-haul services from Paris Orly Airport, which took over the operation of IAG subsidiary OpenSkies, and began its first short-haul services from Vienna International Airport, operated by Level Europe. On 18 June 2020, Level Europe entered insolvency and the brand's short-haul flights operated by the Austrian-based airline were terminated with immediate effect. On 8 July 2020, the shutdown of OpenSkies was announced and initially ended the brand's long-haul flights based at Paris Orly, and although ticket sales for OpenSkies flights under the brand were later restarted, operations did not resume. The brand ...

Design Of Experiments
The design of experiments (DOE, DOX, or experimental design) is the design of any task that aims to describe and explain the variation of information under conditions that are hypothesized to reflect the variation. The term is generally associated with experiments in which the design introduces conditions that directly affect the variation, but may also refer to the design of quasi-experiments, in which natural conditions that influence the variation are selected for observation. In its simplest form, an experiment aims at predicting the outcome by introducing a change of the preconditions, which is represented by one or more independent variables, also referred to as "input variables" or "predictor variables." The change in one or more independent variables is generally hypothesized to result in a change in one or more dependent variables, also referred to as "output variables" or "response variables." The experimental design may also identify control variables that must be h ...

Factor Analysis
Factor analysis is a statistical method used to describe variability among observed, correlated variables in terms of a potentially lower number of unobserved variables called factors. For example, it is possible that variations in six observed variables mainly reflect the variations in two unobserved (underlying) variables. Factor analysis searches for such joint variations in response to unobserved latent variables. The observed variables are modelled as linear combinations of the potential factors plus "error" terms, hence factor analysis can be thought of as a special case of errors-in-variables models. Simply put, the factor loading of a variable quantifies the extent to which the variable is related to a given factor. A common rationale behind factor analytic methods is that the information gained about the interdependencies between observed variables can be used later to reduce the set of variables in a dataset. Factor analysis is commonly used in psychometrics, persona ...

Categorical Variable
In statistics, a categorical variable (also called qualitative variable) is a variable that can take on one of a limited, and usually fixed, number of possible values, assigning each individual or other unit of observation to a particular group or nominal category on the basis of some qualitative property. In computer science and some branches of mathematics, categorical variables are referred to as enumerations or enumerated types. Commonly (though not in this article), each of the possible values of a categorical variable is referred to as a level. The probability distribution associated with a random categorical variable is called a categorical distribution. Categorical data is the statistical data type consisting of categorical variables or of data that has been converted into that form, for example as grouped data. More specifically, categorical data may derive from observations made of qualitative data that are summarised as counts or cross tabulations, or from observations o ...

Level (logarithmic Quantity)
In science and engineering, a power level and a field level (also called a root-power level) are logarithmic measures of certain quantities referenced to a standard reference value of the same type. * A ''power level'' is a logarithmic quantity used to measure power, power density or sometimes energy, with commonly used unit decibel (dB). * A ''field level'' (or ''root-power level'') is a logarithmic quantity used to measure quantities of which the square is typically proportional to power (for instance, the square of Voltage is proportional to Power by the inverse of the conductor's Resistance), etc., with commonly used units neper (Np) or decibel (dB). The type of level and choice of units indicate the scaling of the logarithm of the ratio between the quantity and its reference value, though a logarithm may be considered to be a dimensionless quantity. The reference values for each type of quantity are often specified by international standards. Power and field levels are use ...

Level (algebra)
In field theory, a branch of mathematics, the Stufe (/ ʃtuːfə/; German: level) ''s''(''F'') of a field ''F'' is the least number of squares that sum to −1. If −1 cannot be written as a sum of squares, ''s''(''F'') = \infty. In this case, ''F'' is a formally real field. Albrecht Pfister proved that the Stufe, if finite, is always a power of 2, and that conversely every power of 2 occurs. Powers of 2 If s(F)\ne\infty then s(F)=2^k for some natural number k.Rajwade (1993) p.13Lam (2005) p.379 ''Proof:'' Let k \in \mathbb N be chosen such that 2^k \leq s(F) < 2^. Let n = 2^k. Then there are s = s(F) elements e_1, \ldots, e_s \in F\setminus\ such that :0 = \underbrace_ + \underbrace_\;. Both a and b are sums of n squares, and a \ne 0, since otherwise s(F)< 2^k, contrary to the assumption on k. According to the theory of

Quantity
Quantity or amount is a property that can exist as a Counting, multitude or Magnitude (mathematics), magnitude, which illustrate discontinuity (mathematics), discontinuity and continuum (theory), continuity. Quantities can be compared in terms of "more", "less", or "equal", or by assigning a numerical value multiple of a unit of measurement. Mass, time, distance, heat, and angle are among the familiar examples of quantitative properties. Quantity is among the basic Class (philosophy), classes of things along with Quality (philosophy), quality, Substance theory, substance, change, and relation. Some quantities are such by their inner nature (as number), while others function as states (properties, dimensions, attributes) of things such as heavy and light, long and short, broad and narrow, small and great, or much and little. Under the name of multitude comes what is discontinuous and discrete and divisible ultimately into indivisibles, such as: ''army, fleet, flock, government, c ...
