''Leucocoprinus fragilissimus'', commonly known as the fragile dapperling, is a species of gilled mushroom in the family Agaricaceae. Taxonomy As with many of the most well known ''Leucocoprinus'' species the taxonomic history of this species is complex with numerous early mycologists classifying it independently before the species were later merged. As a result the authorities recognised today aren't necessarily the first to document this species but rather the first to document the basionym which ultimately ended up classified as ''Leucocoprinus fragilissimus.'' The first description of this species was made in 1805 by Johannes Baptista von Albertini and Lewis David de Schweinitz who classified it as ''Agaricus flammula.'' This basionym was reclassified as ''Lepiota flammula'' in 1874 by the French botanist Claude Casimir Gillet and then ''Pholiota flammula'' in 1912 by the Italian mycologist Vincenzo Migliozzi. Henry William Ravenel
Henry William Ravenel (May 19, 1814 – July 17, 1887) was an American planter and botanist. He studied fungi and cryptogams in South Carolina, discovering a large number of new species. The genus '' Ravenelia'' is named after him, along with many of the species he discovered. Biography Early life Henry William Ravenel was born on May 19, 1814 on the Pooshee Plantation in Berkeley County, South Carolina. The plantation had been in his family since before 1716. It now lies beneath the waters of Lake Moultrie, which was created in 1939. The nearest existing place is Bonneau. He attended the nearby Pineville Academy and graduated in 1832 from South Carolina College, now the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of the Clariosophic Society. ''Leucocoprinus'' is a genus of fungi in the family Agaricaceae. Its best-known member is the distinctive yellow mushroom '' Leucocoprinus birnbaumii'', which is found in plant pots and greenhouses worldwide. The type species is '' Leucocoprinus cepistipes''. The genus has a widespread distribution and contains over 80 recognised species, however many of these species are very scarcely recorded and little known with only a small number of ''Leucocoprinus'' species which are commonly observed. The majority of the species in this genus are exclusive to tropical environments however numerous species have become a common sight in plant pots and greenhouses resulting in them becoming well known worldwide. ''Leucocoprinus magnicystidiosus'' is a species of mushroom-producing fungus in the family Agaricaceae. Taxonomy It was first described in 1982 by the mycologists Helen Vandervort Smith and Nancy S. Weber who classified it as ''Leucocoprinus magnicystidiosus.'' The specimens studied and documented were collected by Ervin Hillhouse in 1971. Description ''Leucocoprinus magnicystidiosus'' is a dapperling mushroom with extremely fragile white flesh. Cap: 4–8cm wide when mature. Up to 1.3cm wide and 3.2cm high when young. Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya are about 5.5 km to the west of the city of Kandy in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. David Pegler
David Norman Pegler (born 2 November 1938) is a British mycologist. Until his retirement in 1998, he served as the Head of Mycology and assistant keeper of the herbarium at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew. Pegler received his BSc from London University in 1960, thereafter studying tropical Agaricales with R.W.G. Dennis as his graduate supervisor.
