''Let Not One Devil Cross the Bridge'' ( fi, Äl’ yli päästä perhanaa) is a 1968 Finnish anthology comedy film directed by Matti Kassila. The film is an ensemble divided into three independent stories, based on the ideas of the actual frame story, where the people who took part in the film design meeting during the get-together held at evening. The film is starring Maija Karhi, Pentti Siimes, Helge Herala and Toivo Mäkelä. Director Kassila returned to film directing after a five-year hiatus. The film was completed at a time when Finnish television had begun to take audiences away from cinemas, which is why Kassila wanted to use this film to comment on the crisis in the Finnish film industry. The film's audience success was the weakest in 1968, even though it was effectively marketed, and it made big losses, making it the box-office bomb. Matti Kassila
Matti Kassila (12 January 1924 – 13 December 2018) was a Finnish film director who achieved fame as one of the most prominent Finnish filmmakers in the 1950s and 1960s. He is most famous for the series of four Inspector Palmu movies, based on the character created by Mika Waltari. During his long career, he won seven Jussi Awards, including a concrete Jussi for lifetime achievement, and received numerous other commendations. His 1959 film '' Punainen viiva'' was entered into the 1st Moscow International Film Festival. He was also one of the screenwriters for the 1968 film ''Here, Beneath the North Star'', directed by Edvin Laine. Markus Selin (born 16 March 1960) is a Finnish television and film producer. Career Selin was born in Vihti. His first feature was conceived in the mid-1980s. At a party in Los Angeles, he was introduced to fellow Finn Renny Harlin. The two collaborated on a script about three Americans vacationing in Finland who cross the border into the Soviet Union. They approached Chuck Norris to star and he initially agreed but later had to pull out after the production was delayed due to financing problems. His son Mike Norris took over the lead. Selin and Harlin funded the first part of production themselves and then shopped around with the resulting 20-minute demo reel. Selin was eventually able to secure co-production financing from the U.S. for what became the most expensive film ever produced in Finland. Markku Tapani Pölönen (born 16 September 1957 in Eno) is a Finnish film director, screenwriter, and editor; and the owner of film production company Suomen Filmiteollisuus. Pölönen's best known work is the 2004 film '' Dog Nail Clipper'' — written and directed by Pölönen — which was honoured in five categories at the 2005 Jussi Awards (Finland's premier film awards) including Best Direction and Best Script and which film critic Jay Weissberg from ''Variety'' called Pölönen's "most mature work to date". Maunu Kurkvaara (born 18 July 1926) is a Finnish film director and screenwriter. Kurkvaara has been widely regarded as the initiator of the “new wave” of Finnish cinema in the spirit of French New Wave cinema. He directed 22 films between 1955 and 1993. Many of his films share a nautical theme due to his love of the sea. His film ''Yksityisalue'' was entered into the 13th Berlin International Film Festival.
