''Let's Make It Legal'' is a 1951 American comedy film made by Twentieth Century-Fox, directed by Richard Sale and produced by Robert Bassler from a screenplay by I.A.L. Diamond and F. Hugh Herbert, based on a story by Mortimer Braus entitled "My Mother-in-Law, Miriam". The music was by Cyril J. Mockridge and the cinematography by Lucien Ballard. The film stars Claudette Colbert, Macdonald Carey, Zachary Scott, Barbara Bates and Marilyn Monroe. Plot Hugh (Macdonald Carey) and Miriam Halsworth (Claudette Colbert) are in the final stages of their divorce procedure. Miriam wants to separate because he's addicted to gambling - although he often wins. Richard Sale (director)
Richard Sale, (December 17, 1911 in New York – March 4, 1993 in Los Angeles) was an American screenwriter, pulp writer, and film director. Career Born in New York City, Sale was educated at Washington and Lee University. Sale started his career writing as a freelance writer for pulps in the Thirties, appearing regularly in '' Detective Fiction Weekly'' (with the Daffy Dill series ), '' Argosy'', '' Double Detective'', and a number of other magazines. In the Forties, he graduated to slick publications like ''The Country Gentleman'' and ''The Saturday Evening Post''. In the 1930s, Sale was one of the highest-paid pulp writers. Ralph Dayton Sanford (May 21, 1899 – June 20, 1963) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 180 films and in at least 200 episodes on television between 1930 and 1960, mostly bit parts or supporting roles. Sanford frequently appeared in Westerns and often portrayed "tough guys". Sanford also served in the infantry during World War I. Career Sanford's began his professional career in 1924 as the dancing partner of Ray Bolger. He moved to California in 1928 and gained his first movie credit in 1933. He began appearing on television in 1951, playing various roles. Frank Randolph Cady (September 8, 1915 – June 8, 2012) was an American actor best known for his role as storekeeper Sam Drucker in three American television series during the 1960s – ''Petticoat Junction'', ''Green Acres'', and ''The Beverly Hillbillies'' – and his earlier role as Doc Williams on ''The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet''.
