Leslie Rowntree
Henry Leslie Rowntree (June 2, 1914 – May 17, 1975) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1956 to 1971. He represented the riding of York West. He served as a cabinet minister in the governments of Leslie Frost and John Robarts. Background Rowntree was born in Toronto, Ontario. He attended Runnymede Public School and Humberside Collegiate Institute. He graduated from University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School. During his student days he worked summers on ships on the Great Lakes and spent a time as purser on the SS Noronic. In 1940, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and became a Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve. After the war he was called to the bar and eventually started his own law firm specializing in maritime law. SS Noronic
SS ''Noronic'' was a Canadian passenger ship that was destroyed by fire in Toronto Harbour in September 1949 with the loss of at least 118 lives. Construction In 1910 the Northern Navigation Company, a subsidiary of the Richelieu and Ontario Navigation Company, engaged in an operating agreement with the Grand Trunk Railway (GTR), for the construction of a new ship. While Northern did not immediately propose to build a new steamer at that time, the addition of new cabins for the ''Huronic'' was also under consideration. James Auld (politician)
James Alexander Charles Auld (July 22, 1921 – June 30, 1982) was an Ontario political figure. He represented Leeds in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1954 to 1981 as a Progressive Conservative member. Background He was born in Toronto, the son of James Carswell Auld, and educated in Toronto and at the University of Toronto. In 1946, he married Nancy Eleanor Gilmour. Auld served as captain in the Queen's Own Rifles. He participated in the D-Day landings at Normandy in 1944. He worked as a wholesaler in Brockville. Politics He was a member of the town council for Brockville. In 1954 he was elected in a by-election in the provincial riding of Leeds to replace Charles MacOdrum who had died earlier in the year. Dalton Arthur Bales (February 21, 1920 – October 30, 1979) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1963 to 1975 who represented the riding of York Mills. Bill Warrender
William Kenneth Warrender (August 5, 1908 – April 6, 1997) was a Canadian politician, who represented Hamilton Centre in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1951 to 1962 as a Progressive Conservative member. Prior to his service in the Legislature, Warrender was a lawyer and civic politician in Hamilton. Early life and political career Warrender was born in Stoney Creek, Ontario in 1908. Albert Benjamin Rutter "Bert" Lawrence MC (March 31, 1923 – March 28, 2007) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1963 to 1974 who represented the ridings of Russell and Carleton East. Morton Shulman
Morton Shulman (25 April 1925 – 18 August 2000) was a Canadian politician, businessman, broadcaster, columnist, coroner, and physician. He was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1925 to a Jewish family. He first came to fame as Ontario's Chief Coroner in the early 1960s. During this period, he also became a very successful stock-market player, and authored a bestselling book about how to make money in the stock market. In the mid-1960s he embarrassed the provincial government when he found them to be disobeying provincial health and safety laws.
