Lesbians On Ecstasy
__NOTOC__ Lesbians on Ecstasy is a Canadian electronic band formed in 2003 in Montreal, Quebec. The band toured across Canada and the U.S. with Le Tigre before the release of their first recording. The first album, the self-titled ''Lesbians on Ecstasy (album), Lesbians on Ecstasy'' was released on October 26, 2004. In 2005, the song from this recording entitled "Bitchsy", a re-take of the Fifth Column (band), Fifth Column song "All Women Are Bitches", was featured on the TV series ''Queer as Folk (US TV series), Queer as Folk''. That same year, ''Lesbians on Ecstasy'' was chosen as the "Album of the Year" by U.S. magazine ''The Advocate (LGBT magazine), The Advocate''. Maggie MacDonald
Maggie MacDonald (born 1979) is a writer, playwright, and musician who lives in Toronto, Ontario. Early life and education MacDonald grew up in Cornwall, Ontario, where she became active in the local independent rock music scene. She put on shows and created a fanzine called ''Saucy'', which gained attention outside of Cornwall as well. Dubbed the "punk-rock valedictorian," she also grew into politics. She served as a student trustee on her school board at the age of 17. She left Cornwall to attend the University of Toronto. Career Returning to Cornwall at age 20, MacDonald ran in the 1999 provincial election as the New Democratic Party candidate in the electoral district of Stormont—Dundas—Charlottenburgh. Alien8 Recordings
Alien8 Recordings is an independent record label founded in 1996 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The label was founded by Sean O'Hara and Gary Worsley. The label released material from prominent noise artists such as Merzbow, Think About Life, Aube, Keiji Haino, Masonna, MSBR, Francisco López, Bastard Noise, and Daniel Menche, as well as electronic artists such as Tim Hecker, Lesbians on Ecstasy, Les Georges Leningrad, and Books on Tape. Alien8 also is known for releasing the 2003 debut of indie-pop band The Unicorns. It also had two sub-labels, Fancy Recordings and Substractif, which released music from 2001-2004. In 2018, Worsley bought Montreal's famed record store Cheap Thrills, where he had been working since 1998. Alien8 has not released any music since 2011. Chicks On Speed
Chicks on Speed is a feminist music and fine art ensemble, formed in Munich in 1997, after members Australian Alex Murray-Leslie and American Melissa Logan met at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. Though Chicks on Speed reached cult status throughout the 2000s as catalysts of the musical genre electroclash, the band was founded and more broadly, performed as a multidisciplinary art group working in performance art, electronic dance music, collage graphics, textile design and fashion. History Co-founders, Melissa Logan and Alex Murray-Leslie were art students at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, when they met in 1997 at one of the Academy's parties. Electrosexual is a French electronic musician, composer, performer, record producer and music video director living in Berlin. Career Electrosexual's passion for early electronic engines and primitive sounds from analog synthesizers inspired his mingling rough bass with an uptempo rhythm. He is the electro-sex (sometimes called sex-tronica) precursor and pioneer in France. He is an advocate of LGBT rights. Electrosexual created his stage name in reference to surrealistic non "(human) sexuality", considering machines and synthesizers as genitors, following in the footsteps of David Cronenberg, H.R. Giger, Chris & Cosey and Add N to (X). Katastrophe (Rocco Kayiatos)
Rocco Kayiatos, known professionally as Katastrophe and in some later releases as Rocco Katastrophe, is an American rapper. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, he began competing in Slam poetry, poetry slams in 1997. After winning the 1998 Youth Speaks poetry slam, he went on tour with Sister Spit's Rambling Road Show tour. As a teenager, Kayiatos had poems on four compilation CDs. He is widely credited as the first openly transgender singer in the hip-hop genre and he often incorporates his identity as a trans man into his work. Team Dresch is an American punk rock band originally formed in 1993 in Olympia, Washington. The band made a significant impression on the DIY punk movement queercore, which gave voice through zines and music to the passions and concerns of LGBT people in the punk scene. History In 1993, Donna Dresch formed Team Dresch with herself playing guitar and bass, Jody Bleyle on guitar and vocals, Kaia Wilson on guitar and vocals, and Marcéo Martinez on drums. Dresch and Bleyle met in the early 1990s, and together decided they wanted to form “an all-dyke band."
