Les Murray (broadcaster)
Les James Murray (born László Ürge ; 5 November 1945NAA: A2478/19 URGE J/BOX 158, Non-British European migrant selection documents, National Archives of Australia – 31 July 2017) was a Hungarian-born Australian sports journalist, association football (soccer) broadcaster and analyst. He was the host of ''The World Game'' on SBS television, retiring in July 2014, and has been inducted into the FFA's Football Hall of Fame. Pápa
Pápa is a historical town in Veszprém county, Hungary, located close to the northern edge of the Bakony Hills, and noted for its baroque architecture. With its 32,473 inhabitants (2011), it is the cultural, economic and tourism centre of the region. The Order of Australia is an honour that recognises Australian citizens and other persons for outstanding achievement and service. It was established on 14 February 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, on the advice of the Australian Government. ''Toyota World Sport'' was an Australian television sport news program. Airing on SBS at 7pm local time, the long-running show was axed in December 2006. The show aired at 7pm following SBS' 6.30 news (and repeated the following day at 4pm), and was hosted by Les Murray on weekdays, and Liz Deep-Jones on weekends. Presenters Stephanie Brantz was originally a weekend presenter of the show, but joined Les Murray as a co-host during 2006, before she defected to the Nine Network in August of that year. Other hosts during this period included Mike Tomalaris and Simon Hill. Robert Grasso, John Baldock and Emma Simkin were among the show's award-winning team of journalists. ''On The Ball'' was an Australian Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) television talk show about soccer, which began around 1984 and ended in 2002. The show was mainly hosted by Les Murray and Johnny Warren, but were often joined by other hosts & analysts, including Stephanie Brantz and Francis Awaritefe amongst others. It was well known for promoting the game of football in Australia and endorsing candidates for the Socceroos coaching job and for the board of Soccer Australia (since replaced by the Football Federation Australia). FIFA World Cup
The FIFA World Cup, often simply called the World Cup, is an international association football competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the ' ( FIFA), the sport's global governing body. The tournament has been held every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of the Second World War. Subtitles and captions are lines of dialogue or other text displayed at the bottom of the screen in films, television programs, video games or other visual media.
