''Les Misérables'' is a 1958 film adaptation of the 1862 Victor Hugo novel. Written by Michel Audiard and René Barjavel, the film was directed by Jean-Paul Le Chanois and stars Jean Gabin as Jean Valjean. Adaptation The bishop's background is briefly sketched rather than detailed as in the novel. Javert is a young boy, the son of a guard in the Toulon prison, when he sees Valjean as a convict. Fantine's body, instead of being thrown into a public grave unceremoniously after Javert arrested Jean Valjean, was still in her deathbed after Jean Valjean escaped jail, and he pays Sister Simplice to bury her properly. Javert comes to arrest Jean Valjean when he is in the house of Thénardier intending to take Cosette with him. Sister Simplice admits Valjean and Cosette to the convent instead of Father Fauchevent. Lucid Fall
Jo Yun-suk (; born March 18, 1975), known by the stage name Lucid Fall (), is a South Korean singer-songwriter. He began his music career in 1997 as a member of the band Misoni (), but has been most prolific as a solo artist, having released nine studio albums since 2001. Lucid Fall's musical style incorporates folk, pop, and bossa nova. Since moving to Jeju Island in 2014 and becoming a tangerine orchardist, his output has also included ambient compositions. He uses a nylon guitar as his primary instrument and is known for his poetic lyrics. Biography Lucid Fall was born Jo Yun-suk in 1975 in Seoul, South Korea. ''Les Misérables'' is a seven-part radio series broadcast July 23 – September 3, 1937 (Fridays at 10 p.m. ET), on the Mutual Network. Orson Welles adapted Victor Hugo's 1862 novel, directed the series, and starred as Jean Valjean. The 22-year-old Welles developed the idea of telling stories with first-person narration on the series, which was his first job as a writer-director for radio. Marking the radio debut of the Mercury Theatre, Welles's ''Les Misérables'' was described by biographer Simon Callow as "one of his earliest, finest and most serious achievements on radio". The production costarred Martin Gabel as Javert, Alice Frost as Fantine, and Virginia Nicolson, Welles's first wife, as the adult Cosette. ''Les Misérables'' is a 2019 French crime thriller film directed by Ladj Ly in his full-length feature directorial debut, from a screenplay by Ly, Giordano Gederlini and Alexis Manenti, based on Ly's 2017 short film of the same name. Manenti stars alongside Damien Bonnard, Djebril Zonga, Issa Percia, Al-Hassan Ly, Steve Tientcheu, Almany Kanoute and Nizar Ben Fatma. The film, set in the commune of Montfermeil in the aftermath of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, is based on a real-life occurrence of police violence which took place in the city on 14 October 2008, and was observed and filmed by Ly. The story follows several characters within the commune, as a theft from a teenager spirals into the threat of a large crisis.
